I have a DPMS Recon..  LOVE IT!!   heavy as the dickens but for some reason i still carry it..

FYI - the cheapest plinking ammo i found was from Georgia Arms - about $0.64/rd

I just paid $.78/rd shipped for 100rds of XM80. Didn't like paying that much, but I wanted some quality ammo to break in my barrel. From now on I'm only ordering from them. Prices are good, they're a small shop, and the canned heat comes packed in an ammo can. I'm short on ammo cans, so this saves time and money

Does anyone have problems with carbon buildup on their barrel? Like from the gas block to the barrel nut?

Its normal for a little carbon to build up at the gas block. Leave it there, it will help seal it off.
Carbon may build up around the barrel nut from blowing back from inside the receiver. Unless its excessive ammounts and causing problems I wouldn't worry about it.

IMO, the Atlas is the best bipod for the AR.

At $200+ I expect it should be the best. I'm not looking to drop that much on a bipod, but I'll keep it in mind.

Yes, it's expensive. The Harris is a great value and still an excellent bipod also.
There are several good choices, just avoid the made in China Harris knockoffs.

I'm looking at the Harris bipods now. I'll stick to reputable dealers to buy it.

Good choice on the Harris. As far as knockoffs, I was speaking more of the Caldwell, Shooters Ridge, etc....the bipods that look like a Harris but are no where close in quality. I have been down that road before, the pieces are now in a landfill somewhere.

Was thinking of a Garand or M1A, but AR in 308 is looking more tempting every day.  Bushmaster at WM for 1100 bucks might be the best bet.

I remember seeing a video of yours a little while ago, very nice rifle.

What coating is that?  Looking at painting/cerakote mine later and was wondering what matches magpul fde.
