Nice.. Curious if you know what that things weighs just how it is in the photo? Also what can? AAC 762-sd? Can is AAC 762-SD. Not sure what it weighs as it sits in the photo. It's a little over 8 pounds empty with no scope or bipod attached. |

Last year I was asked to help a friend zero his new rifle, an S&W M&P10. I had heard about them but had never seen one or handled one. The day came that we had scheduled to zero his rifle and he let me do all the shooting. I was really impressed, I wanted one. Over the next few months I started looking at them and I made the descion to pick one up. As I looked at the models I noticed the hunting model and the state compliant model did not have the barrels tapered to the pencil profile and that appealed to me. I purchased the model 811310 State compliant model.
My overall all plan was to model the styling of this gun to look like a Knights Armament SR-25EC/M110K1, beautifually awesome looking guns but waay ot of my price range. So I took the styling features of both guns that I liked and could duplicate and placed them into my build. I could not find anything close to the URX3.1 in styling and the Knights Rails are ridiculously priced. The Troy MRP is very simular to the the URX on the SR-25EC so I went with it. I also shortened the bottom rail of the MRP like the URX. I chose the Magpul ACS buttstock and the Magpul MIAD from the M110K1 and the color scheme. Knights cerakote's the M110's, I didn't want to spend that kind of money so I painted my upper and lower with Aervoe Coyote camo paint. It is baked on and should be fairly durable. Here are a couple of videos of the build. Smith & Wesson M&P10 Project Part #1 - YouTube http://youtu.be/H5ApvGJNo4E Now how it looks today. I still have a few more thing I want to add. Griffin Armament Taper Mount Flash Comp 5/8x24 7.62, this is similar to the KAC MAMS but will work with the Griffin Armament PHS Suppressor I hope to purchase next month. Knights Rail Covers MBUS® Pro Offset Sight – Front &Rear, again simular to KAC's offset sites but $100.00 less expensive. Better glass, the scope is a cheapLeupold knock-off that is only on the gun for pictures. I hope to purchase a SWFA 5-25X50mm Super Sniper for my bolt gun this year and move the Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50mm PST SFP scope to the M&P. The weight of the gun at this point is 10.8lbs Please let me know if you have any questions. |

The super sniper scope is what I initially was looking at, but I also want the capacity for engagements when the sun is going or has gone down. The SWFA does not have a lit reticle, and I am not rich, leaving me to really do some shopping. I am not sure what I am going to put on this rifle.

SS View Quote Vortex has some nice illuminated offerings that won't break the bank. Viper PST 2.5-10x44 comes illuminated and is around 500-600 bucks, street price. You could probably find a lightly-used one for a little less. |

Did you put a 2nd gas block at the end of the barrel? Lol. Now that's taking it a bit far. ...but seriously, did he? And why cut out the bottom of the rail? I would think that is the prime spot for anything you'd want to attach to a rifle like that (sling, bipod...). |

I'm wondering if it will have a sort of suppressor effect and dissipate a lot of the energy
|
|
[#24]
shields usually just redirect the blast forward so it doesn't piss off everyone else at the range.
|
|
[#25]
But I'm wondering if it's quieter than a barrel with no attachments. I'll probably pick one up soon and see

I should have done my research a little better and bought a gun with an upper that would work with the URX but I could not beat the price and features of the S&W. I did want the look just not the cost of a Knights gun., As you can see I have a bipofd mount already and I don't think a 1/2" is going to make any difference in functionality. And believe me, if I can find or have someone make a copy of the KAC Gas Block, it is going on there. I'm at $2100.00 so far, I still have a long way to go before I get to the $4500-5000 for a new KAC SR-25 carbine. That leaves money for Good glass suppressor and lots of ammo. |
