the one you can get??

seriously the DPMS style platform will be easier on the pocket book than the Armalite system.
don't forget to find mags too

Larue
KAC
Armalite
LMT
GA Precision

In no particular order as they all are going to shoot about the same. Buy the one that has the features you want and go from there.

What do you want to do with it?

Love my MP10! Added some goodies and went to the range yesterday. Was only able to shoot at 50 yards, was a packed house and everyone was bogarding the 100 yard benches.  Used 150gr Rem Corlokts .  Left is buis, right is with scope.  Shot flawlessly, glad I got this rifle.

Nothing wrong with the DPMS.  I have three in wildcat calibers and one that I built up using a DPMS .338 Federal barrel and they are super easy to work on and modify to whatever you want to do with them.  Parts are relatively easy to find when compared to the other brands.  Saying mine shoot well is not a fair statement because three have Pac-Nor barrels but even the one I built up on the DPMS .338F barrel shoots extremely well, MOA with some loads, 1.5 MOA with all loads.  All of them function flawlessly once I got them tuned in which is not something you have to worry about with standard calibers.

LaRue OBR or LMT MWS308. The British Army tested several .308 self loading rifles, including all the major .308 AR manufacturers, and the LMT came out on top. It is now their L129A1 designated marksman rifle.

Larue for absolute quality

LMT for quality and features. Barrel can be switched without removing forend.

Armalite is fantastic. Buy the newer series that uses PMAGS

Is $1400 for a M&P 10 a non gouging price for it? I was thinking about picking one up from Buds.

I worked with an M&P10 last week.
With a Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 3-9 duplex reticle it put three Remington match into less than half an inch at 100 yards.
It can be quite accurate, not too heavy, fair trigger.
I was more impressed with it than I'd expected.

Might find one for less than $1400, but probably not MUCH less.

The LWRC REPR is King.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. T he best value would probably be the S&W AR10,  I have an LWRC REPR and HK762 and wouldn't trade or sell either..

You want the best AR money can buy, take a look at JP Enterprise LRP-07 or any of their other rifles. You will not find a more accurate rifle or a rifle with as much QUALITY and RELIABILITY as a JP rifle. I have a LRP-07 and it is by far the best I have ever seen or shot.

Yes I have shot the REPR, to damn heavy and no where close to being as accurate as my JP LRP-07. Not to mention the Quality from JP blows away LWRC.

SR25 is where it's at.
Scar 17 if that is too much money.

Although the Armalite is good for the price.
Don't like DPMS at all.

Are you really saying that an LWRC is better and more accurate than a JP rifle ? LOL I have been shooting professionally and have shot just about every rifle out there, while LWRC makes fine rifles they are no where near as accurate as a GAP-10 or a JP LRP-07. If you have really shot either of these you then you would know the truth. But I would bet my life you have never ever shot either a GAP or JP Enterprise rifle. LWRC is more of a battle rifle where as JP and GAP are more precision rifles.

Nothing wrong with RRA LAR8. The finish is second to none and will shoot 10's and X's all day at 600 yds with many diffrent loads.

Just about any one of the quality rifles mentioned will work for you.  Some of course better under certain circumstances than others.  Each one will probably shoot better than you are capable of .  it really is just a matter of picking the features you must have, and then spending the money.   Have at it.

I shoot a cmmg mk3 with the 18" stainless bull barrel and magpul prs stock. Mine shoots 1/2" moa at 100 yards, and hits the 200 and 300 yard steel without a problem. It also costs alot less than some of the other rifles mentioned. I also have a vortex pst 6-24x50 scope on it. Im not sure why people overlook cmmg, but they make very good rifles and their customer service is top notch. My only complaint is the two stage trigger is pretty rough for long range shooting.  I swapped it out with a spare rock river arms 2 stage match trigger for now until I can afford to uprade to a gieselle with a 1 pound trigger pull. Maybe lighter, but not sure yet.

A lot of noise to me in this thread.  And only one other person is advocating JP.

JP is leaps and bounds ahead of the competition, if price is no object.

Thank you finally some one that knows what the hell they are talking about. I have a JP LRP -07 and this is without a doubt the finest rifle I have ever seen or shot and that is saying something because I have shot the REPR, GAP-10, and Larue OBR. But all of these are fine rifles and I would be proud to own any of them, but would never get rid of my JP.

This.  I've shot several different .308's and Armalite is second only to LaRue Tactical.

I wish I had a long distance range to be able to stretch my AR10's legs.  I've had mine for over 2 years and it's only been to the range tow or three times so I am selling it to build something that I will get more use out of.

Maybe in 5 years or so when I hope to move somewhere more rural I will buy another .308.

Knights and GAP are second and third to armalite?  Guess I shouldn't have sold my armalite.

you could build one with similar quality to some of the top tier rifles, for what you'd spend for one of the lesser priced ar10/lr308 if you know what your doing. just my .02

Seriously?  You need to quit drinking the spiked Armalite Kool Aid!
I own an Armalite, it's a great rifle, but it is about fifth or sixth on the list!

On a lighter note.......you from  Djibouti?   Been there a few times.

I'm there with you, The JP is a great rifle and one of my favs. It's the low mass carrier and gas system that makes it, IMO, and has been the reason I have re-thought how I build rifles.

I've got each of these rifles, and here are my impressions:

* JP LRP-07  -- best by far for a competition rifle. Accurate, reliable, and relatively lightweight for a .308.
* Fulton Armory Titan -- Very reasonably priced considering the accuracy of this platform. Definitely worth considering
* AR-10T -- Great quality, excellent accuracy (perhaps on par with the JP), but is very heavy, not good for shooting sports that require movement, especially 3-gun
* POF -- Accurate, reliable (but can be finicky about some ammo), My only real gripe about this platform is that it is *bulky*. Not so much heavy, but you need big hands to work this one. I guess that is a downside to the piston system, which makes their front rail system so large.

Even though I now like my Sig716 a lot, I can not say it is a good buy because it took 240 rounds of ammo to break it in. Before that, it would hang (fail to feed past feed ramps) every 3rd to 4th round! It does not seem uncommon either, as many others have reported the same thing or having to send it back in to Sig to have ramps polished and having to pay for shipping! All 308 ammo cycled 100%, it just had to be broken in whenever using lower powered 7.62x51 ammo (yes, 308 ammo is hotter)

+1 on RRA.  I already had a FN-FAL .308 with a bunch of mags and they are totally interchangeable between the two platforms.  Saved some coin.....

This interests me as well. The only issue is the BCG? I would want to build an SR-25 pattern rifle. Use a top quality barrel, but finding a matching bcg is harder than one might think...
