THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I'm looking for someting between 1500 and 2k. I will be shooting ball ammo through it and 2 or 3 MOA would be fine out to 800 yards Will most likely put a scope for 4 to 10 power on it. Which to stay away from and which to consider and why? Armalite? CMMG?...??? |

AR10 is Armalite. They do make an AR10-A which follows the SR25/DPMS pattern. Looking at parts the SR25/DPMS is the better way to go. They take P-Mags. DPMS offers rifles in the range you are looking. They have a fairly good reputation in the 308 offerings.

but there are other choices besides armalite that make an AR 10 type rifle.
I got one that takes SR 25 type mags, not that it was a part of the decision to purchase. point is dont get stuck on armalite. there are other flavors of .308. I got a remington |

Roll your own. Mega MA10. Can build with either DPMS or SR25 pattern parts. Uses SR25 pattern mags which means inexpensive and reliable Pmags can be used with it. They look awesome to boot and performance is flawless.

I've had good luck with both the Freedom Group ARs (DPMS, Bushmaster, Remington) and the new Armalite AR10A. I like the AR10A forged receivers over the DPMS and billet types. I like the wide variety of configuration options than the DPMS types however.

You can't build or purchase this quality for under $2K: http://www.762sass.com/product.php?p=351&cid=9&session=fd098aa2eaf1278b8ee13d62f934797b EDIT: If'n it ain't an ARMALITE. EDIT II: I do not speak of DPMS or of wominz PMS... same da-da-damn thang, technically. I think. |

I was cleaning out the safe today and the AR10 lower I have as an Armalite AR10. I do favor piston systems with my AR15s but I never fired AR10 type weapons and may one one with a GP
I have had the HK91, FAL and the M1A but never an AR10. I like them all but now Im down to one M1A Bush that I dont shoot much and 3 FALs. I prefer the FALs over the M1A or HK but want to try an AR10 type weapon. These are my mid range weapons in 308. I need someting thats reliable and 2 - 3 MOA with ball ammo. If the AR10 is as reliable and accurate as my AR15s I would buy at least one |

Honestly, you should be happy with any of the offerings from any of the major manufacturers (CMMG, Armalite, DPMS, RRA, etc.) in your price range. There are distinct differences between the manufacturers regarding magazines, some parts, and interchangability of uppers, so it would be wise to do some research. Least known here is probably the CMMG, though most reports on this site have been favorable.
One thing you may want to consider is that the RRA 308 uses FAL mags. If you have alot of FAL mags for your 3 FAL's, you may want to consider the RRA. One thing to note is that the RRA reportedly likes surplus FAL mags but not the new DSA FAL mags. Thermold plastic and the RRA plastic are supposed to work as well. CMMG, Armalite, DPMS, and RRA should all fit your 2-3 MOA requirement with ball ammo. Of course there is always Larue, LMT, and KAC but these would be out of the price range given. If you're specifically wondering about the Armalite, they are reliable, fairly accurate (look to their website for accuracy guarantees), and they come with a lifetime warranty. Spare parts are usually available if needed and their Gen2 mags are reasonably priced and reliable. They also make a version that takes SR25 style and Pmags if you want to go that route. HTH |
