that looks great. what are your thoughts on the rifle so far? just wondering, does the front quad rail come with the sling swivel stud, and can you screw the swivel stud into the side rail for more of a 3point sling set up?

thanks for the pic, keep them coming.

Out of curiosity why is your rear buis so far forward? Not making fun just wondering if you can actually use it like that.

Elfy,

The RECON did come with the sling swivel attachment.  It  can be moved to the side or top of the quadrail.  I like the rifle.  The trigger was unspeakable, so I took it out and replaced it with a Rock River 2 stage 3.5 lb. unit.  Like the RR trigger it breaks perfectly.  Also way easy to install.  The stainless barrell takes about 200 rounds to break in, according to DPMS.  They are right.  You should follow their barrell break-in formula.  I will be benching the rifle in the next few weeks while working up loads, and we'll see what it will do on a proper range with a real rest.  Then its off to a 600 yard tactical range for fun and games.

Glk34,
The rear sight is just there for now occupying space.  It is sighted in on the very last rear groove in the top rail.  If the scope fails, off it comes and I move the rear sight back.  If the need to change occurs at a bad time..oh well, just empty the magazine in the general direction then run like h3ll. The ancient leupold is temporary anyway.  I mounted it to work up loads.  Once I have my ideal loads prepared, I'm not sure whether I will just go with the battle sights, or do something else.  The new NIKON M308 seems interesting, but in reality, unless my loads match the BDC exactly, I would be better off with equivalent optics with mil dots.

what kind of groupings are you getting @ 100yards? your pics are not helping the wait time on my .308 recon. gun looks really nice. i got a bad gut feeling that my recon is going to take months to get.

btw, how is the weight of the recon decked out with the scope and grip pod as it is going to be damn near the same set up as mine once i get it.

I don't have any pics of mine as I did not have a camera and my phone was dead when I was at the range.  I used Argy and SA to break my rifle in, I think it was 180 rds so at least another 20 rd when I hit the range again.  I would have loved to go today or tomorrow but HS graduations are taking precedence for the weekend.  The range I was at was a 100 yd and with a Aimpoint M2 4 MOA I was hitting pop bottles and other things with no problems once I had it dialed in.  I changed the MOE stock for a Rogers stock that I took off a Colt, I took the MOE grip off and added a MIAD grip so there is no gap in the back, I put a Grip pod on (one with metal legs), a Black Rain CH latch, and some rail ladders that I had laying around.  On the trigger, it was a typical crappy feel but I worked it over a bit to where it was better.  I have not decided what optic to put on top, probably a Leupold VX-R in 3-9 or 2-7x with the red dot center. I may change the stock over to a STR or a ACS just for the cheek weld, and of course a better FCG.  Besides that I love the rifle, enough that I can't wait to find the optic, and start working a load up.

Still working on getting the barrel broke in, and getting a good zero.  I had re-level the scope because the bloody thing shifted on me, and the reticle was about 20 degrees off.  I haven't had a chance to get back out again since.  I will let you know on the groups once I get zero.
