THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Question is whats my best bet at getting it out with minimal damage to the receiver? I'll have to get a new screw for sure but just want to keep the damage to a minimum. I tried to take tap the next size up hex in but it was just to big. |

I hate 1/16 hex wrenches. They seem to wear out after one or two uses. Make sure the hes wrench is new and apply a dap of valve grinding compound to the tip then insert it into the hex screw. The VG compound well tighten the fit so you can apply more torque to the screw. You sure don't want to round the hex in the screw, this is a tight spot if you need to try a e-z-out. I have used JB weld on hex tips before on tiny hex screws that rounded the hex. Good luck, you may need it.
The 'cracked screw" sounds very odd. How could that happen on such a small diameter screw. I guess the "head" could crack around the hex portion. |

Thanks for those tips. I thought about using jb weld and might resort to that. Figured I get a new 1/16 hex and also try and find a 1/16 torx too just in case since I've had good luck using a torx in a stripped hex before (different situation).
As far as the crack I think what you described is what has happened, a portion of the rim on the hex has cracked. Not sure if it will affect a good hex getting a hold but or mess up the threading on the receiver, hopefully not. |

I could attempt to take one tonight but I don't know that I can get a decent picture of the actual hex head considering where it is and the fact its about 1/8 recessed.
