Yeah I know it does, i just thought chrome is easier to clean and its pretty, but more expensive. My list already is over 1800 including chrome DPMS BCG and I'm not done with list yet. I'm going to gun show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco next weekend and I'm bringing list and lots of cash. Maybe I'll get lucky with a few things there I hope.

I found out the same thing.

You use the standard barrel nut AR 15 tool.

Okay so I go to gun show in S.F. over weekend and, all in FDE, bought Magpul UBR for 239.00, MIAD grip for 28.00 and Angled Fore Grip for 32.00. Got a Vortex flash eliminator for 49.00 no deal there. Cool thing about buying at the show is for those things no tax charged. So then after cruising around the show a little while we came to these guys from JD Machine Tech from San Diego. These guys have the hand guard that I really liked after weeks of online browsing http://www.jdmachinetech.com/gallery/tube1.jpg

They have pretty nice receiver sets too http://www.jdmachinetech.com/gallery/762Upper.jpg My brother in law said hey look at these receivers and I'm like "yeah i know they have nice stuff". He, brother in law, has some nice guns including his new Bushmaster 450 and his original Knights SR25. So we are checking this all out, the JD guy is egging me on, I said my mind is already set on the MATEN, he said this will be yours now for 550. My heart broke, I loved the idea of the MATEN, it took me 15 minutes to think about it. Then I find out that the FFL at the gun show they are using is like 2 miles from my house in Fremont, Kalifornistan. That clinched it. Sorry guys but it was the logical and most non hassle thing to do. It is a very nice set and i got the JD 14" hand guard (200.00) to go with it. Had to pay tax on receivers but not hand guard. opted for non highlighted all blacked out receivers. That all came to 803.00 including tax.

Today I called Rainier for a 16" Ultra Match barrel. The guy said yeah we have two in stock let me go make sure. he came back and, "I can't find them"!!! The online store shows them in stock. Now i am on waiting list for one and a DPMS chrome BCG. Well after talking to him I rechecked the online store and he changed the 16" barrel selection to "Notify Me Please". He said maybe end of Feb. for the .308 U/M barrels and BCG's should be here this month.

So that's it, I guess I won't post here this thread with my build since no MATEN now. I will check it though to see what you guys are doing still.

Oh man I was so sure I was going with MATEN that when I joined this site I chose MATENmikey user name, LOL!!!!!!!

I posted this in the "build it yourself" section but since its a Ma Ten build in a variant caliber i thought id revive this thread a little. Along with tagging it for continued info. Who else to tell me about Ma Ten conflicts with parts i chose than this thread right?

Long time lurker first time builder. As such I've put together a list of components for a hunting rifle, and figure id run the major parts through trained eyes. This will be my third AR, but the first one I'm building. I'm open to new links and trying to find some cheaper prices.

Upper/lower - $592.00
Ma Ten from Rainer

Lower build:

Trigger - $279.00
Geissele - Hi-Speed National Match - Match Rifle Trigger
Pistol grip - $19.90
Magpul
LPK - $65.99
DPMS 308
Stock - $184.95
Magpul PRS
Buffer tube/buffer - $43.97
tube
Spring
Buffer

$1185.81 includes the receivers.

Upper build:

Barrel - $400.00
EE - Armalite .338 Federal ported
BCG - $257.00
Only type availible
Do they make a chrome bolt for Armalite? Id much prefer it, but havn't located one.
Rail - $229.00
Troy 13.8 308

$866

$2071.81 total...ish. No gas block, tube, as I'm waiting on info, and i feel like I'm forgetting some other stuff. The receiver sets come with some gear already on, kinda ruining the "build" of it. Meaning the LPK duplicates some parts but spares never hurt when you own 3. I've been hitting up the Ma Ten related threads in the variants section which is why theirs a DPMS threaded barrel nut (included with rail) with an Armalite barrel. But I'm far from knowing all the non compatible bits on the Ar 10's.

I reload so the .338 federal being somewhat federal "proprietary" doesn't bother me. I like the larger round for bear at the distances I'll be shooting. Feedback, critique, links, or just plain AR10 info welcomed.

If you're going with an Armalite barrel, you'll need the longer Armalite gas tube. Just something to be aware of. I ordered mine from Rainier, along with the Armalite BCG, Armalite buffer spring and buffer, etc.

You can get the receives cheaper from AIM Surplus with a coupon code. Also, you can use a regular AR15 LPK and save some money. I would recommend getting the Spikes LPK without the trigger group and save money. You might save more money by shopping around for the stock and and buffer parts.

DPMS .308 Bolt Catch
Ergo DLX w/ Palm Shelf
AR 10 Buffer spring
AR 10 Buffer

SJC Titan Compensator
Dan Def 12” Rail
Magpul PRS AR10
BCG (Gen 3) No F/A notches

On a side note. Someone had asked about the DPMS 308 bolt catch not working with the armalite BCG.
Mine seems to function just fine however I have not been to the range yet I have just been functionchecking it.

How effective is the SJC Titan brake? I'm gonna start a build soon and was pretty much looking between the SJC Titan or the BABC from BattleComp to go with the one on my AR15. If the Titan is as effective as it seems, it may go to the front of the line for around $100 less!

Anyone know the size of the Allen wrench needed for the bolt release pin? I picked up my receiver set from the dealer yesterday (YEA!!) and noticed there wasn't any wrench supplied. It was unopened when I got it so it was never sent. I've got lower parts coming today and would like to get the small parts installed. BTW, does anyone add anti-sieze to the threads to keep them from gallng the aluminum receiver? Just a question from my hot rod days...

Yeah, I didn't see any instructions but I just remember when I had the aluminum heads on my 383 stroker motor, I always put antiseize on the sparkplug threads to keep them from reacting with the aluminum and ruining the threads. Maybe it's only an issue due to the heating and cooling rates of the two different metals.

I doubt it would hurt honestly. Just watch it, and make sure it doesn't work itself out during use.

Here's a list of parts I have purchased:

MA-TEN receiver set from Rifle Gear ($617 delivered)
20" Rainier Arms Ultra Match Barrel (should be here Friday 2/24/12!) ($402 delivered)
Hogue Grip (I already had)
Stock AR15 trigger (I already had)
Trigger/Hammer pins, mag catch assembly, bolt release catch (extended release tab), buffer retainer&spring from Fulton Armory ($46.10)

What I still need:

Magpul PRS stock
Buffer, buffer tube, buffer spring ( may get the buffer & spring from HeavyBuffers.com)
SJC Titan Or BABC comp
YHM two piece gas block
Gas tube
Free Float Rail ( Daniel Defense, Troy, Samson or SI Defense)
DPMS patterned bolt and carrier ( unsure of from where yet but I think I want chromed)
American Defense Recon-X scope mount
Nikon or Leupold glass
Bravo Company Charging Handle (mod 3 or mod 4)
Atlas bipod

Optional stuff:
GOOD single stage trigger (Timney, Wilson Combat, etc)

Received the barrel today. All I can say is that the quality seems to be spot on! I didn't see any burrs in the bore on my cursory inspection. When I get more time, I'll really look it over.

Installed my Geissele SD-E trigger in my Mega lower yesterday and the pins that came w/ the trigger would not fit in the receiver. I was pushing on them pretty hard but they were not going in. No issues with their "slave" pin though. Tried the pins on a Spikes AR-15 lower I had and they fit no problem. I tried the pins that came with a lower parts kit and they fit fine so I used those. I doubt I should have any issues not using the pins that came w/ the trigger?

Thought that was a bit odd, maybe there was a bit too much finish on the inside of the holes? Anyone else run into this?
