THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
JOY is having a table full of parts waiting to be assembled. Got her all together last night minus the LaRue LT-104 mount that's in the mail. Dangit - can't shoot til it comes on Monday.

The MA-TEN set is beautiful and everything went together perfectly. I ended up using the UBR as it balanced the best. The rifle feels great and it's pretty darn light, obviously the Mark 4's going to weigh it down a bit, but as it sits there is no trouble whatsoever shouldering this thing. Defintely light enough to take some elk down with. The Phase 5 EBR works great - so nice to have a 308 version of the BAD lever. And there is no better trigger IMO than the WC TTU's.The bolt and barrel headspace perfectly with my 308 gauges.

I'll post some better pics of it once I get the scope mounted. I very, very highly recommend the MA-TEN set!

The highly-revered white wall, brown carpet pictures (Where's STICK when you need him?!)

^ JUST under 10lbs as pictured minus pmag ^

Ok, got the scope mounted today - I REALLY need to get this thing out in some natural light (like to the range - just found out I can't get out there until freakin' SUNDAY)
These pictures have awful lighting

The fact this thing is balancing on it's mag shows you what a HEAVY mofo the UBR is (collapsed even). I just can't seem to get there with the ACS and the CTR is way too light for this thing. The rifle balances amazingly well, it's just a bit heavy now with the optics on it. Definitely not too heavy, but it's over 11lbs now.

I'd love to now how a fluted Leonidas 12.5 with a CTR and an Aimpoint feels... maybe that's the next project, ha. Form 1 an MA-TEN set and have it for the spring, I wish. Think my wife would administer blunt trauma for sure if I did that. Maybe next year. I'm interested to see how that BABC is going to affect accuracy, if at all. I don't mind a POI shift, but I don't the goups to open up too much - if they do, I'll be taking it off. In fact, I'll probably do some with/without BABC groups on Sunday.

PARTS LIST
MEGA MA-TEN U/L
Noveske 16" 7.62 Barrel
Armalite BCG w/o FA Notches
Slash CAR10 Heavy Buffer
Slash Modded Spring
BattleComp BABC Brake
Phase 5 308 EBR Ambi Bolt Release
Magpul UBR Stock w/Extra Pad
Magpul MIAD Grip
Wilson Combat TTU Two-Stage Trigger
Daniel Defense LITE 12.0 Rail with DPMS Barrel Nut
TROY Noveske marked BUIS
Badger Tac Latch
TangoDown Stubby
Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8x TMR IR Scope
LaRue LT-104 QD Scope Mount
GEAR Sector QD Mount
GEAR Sector 2 Point Sling
Magpul 308 PMAG

New stuff:
KNS detents throughout
B.A.D. Ambi Safety Selector
TUBBS Flat Wire Buffer Spring
Sending barrel off to SR47 to get dimpled (hopefully knock about 8oz off of it!!)

**********UPDATE**********

Ok, here's an update on my weight saving quest. I swapped the UBR for a SOPMOD and I like it VERY much. Loved the UBR too, but it was just too freaking heavy, on an already heavy rifle. SOPMOD's very solid and lightweight. Got a Noveske QD endplate for it as well..
Next up is a different handguard and to get the barrel dimpled or fluted. Should be shipping the barrel out in a week or so...
Just swapping the SOPMOD took the weight from 9.92lbs to 9.23lbs.

some high dollar parts in that build, what will it end up running you once the mount and scope are on there?

Very nice looking rifle, cannot wait for range report.

One of the nicer AR-10 builds I've seen in a while.

Good job!

Any "during assembly" pictures? Ive got one waiting at my FFL and would be interested to see a few action shots of the builld. Specifically headspacing.

Hey... you have two extra stocks. That means you have to build two more rifles

Very nice build, btw!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post, but here goes anyway - You don't set the headspace on AR type rifles unless you are attaching the barrel extension, but that is usually done by the barrel maker, though you can check headspace with gauges.

So your saying there is no need to check headspacing when assembling this (or any) AR build? Ive built one from the ground up so this will be new to me. I may have just been misunderstanding what Ive been researching. Thanks for the reply.

Good idea to check - I was especially concerned on this build because of the nature of 308's having multiple standards. However, if you stick to the same platform with the BCG/Barrel, you should be ok. I like the insurance of checking the headspace myself. I've only got 2 hands and one face to last a few more years...

Roger that. I'll be sure to pick up a gauge and test it out for myself before I get to the range with it. Beautiful build, my friend. Now go shoot it, and come back with a range report!!

Is your Wilson Combat TTU resetting correctly? Mine was not, so I swapped it out for a Geissele DMR and all is well. The TTU went into my 5.56 SPR.

Just get in on the deal for the upper and lower while its still available and then just start buying parts as you can
afford them...(as you spot good deals on the EE for example)

I figure this might be a year long project before I get mine done

How much $ do you think you have in the rifle without scope & mount?

Haven't been to the range yet, but it's been fine in the living room. :)

Probably done 30+ trigger pulls/checks...

I got to take her to the range today. Very impressed!
Definitely sub-MOA with 168 FGGM. At one point I shot 3 rounds into one hole and of course my next 3 shots were called fliers. Thank goodness PA has FGGM for less than a buck a round cause I need to replace 80 of em!
Barrel hates AE 308, as did my LR308. Hornady Amax match 168's did very well but not quite as tight as the FGGMs - maybe MOA. These are basically the same thing as the TAP FPD, so I wanted to make sure my zero was good enough on those, and it was almost identical to the FGGMs at 100. GTG for SHTF there.
I shot about 120rds and had no issues, except for my crappy eyes and shaky hands, ha.
Recoil isn't bad at all - the Battle Comp was nice on the ears and definitely helped control the muzzle during some non-rested shots. I think if the BCs DO affect accuracy, youre not going to see it 100yds with a 308. I can definitely hunt with this rig. That Leupy MK4 is badass glass - super clear and bright, excellent eye relief.

Very happy with the build!

I thought I'd post some pics of the ramps - I know this has been a question for a few and it was for me. One of the first questions I had for MEGA months ago was if the upper will have M4 ramps, when they said no, I was surprised, because a lot of 762 barrels - especially Noveskes have some pretty DEEP ramps. While I did not have any feeding issues, I'm pretty sure some rounds are rubbing along the edge of the MA-TEN upper rec. I looked at a few of the projectiles, once they were slammed into battery and they had some light gouging. NOTHING like a DPMS, but enough to make me want to polish some things, which I just got done doing. I lightly ran a fiber polishing cone dremel wheel into the ramps and it just took off that sharp edge ever so slightly - enough of a difference to feel with my finger.

Anyway, kinda wish MEGA would have put a bit more of a bevel vs. knife-edge on the upper - you can see where things have been contacting it. Is it a problem, probably not. Am I OCD? Darn tootin'.
