YES, I use a DPMS LRS-30, ar-10 chambered in .300 rem short action ultra mag. With a Zies 6x20 x50 Rapid Z recticle.Shot a 5x5 at 277 yds with 40 mph wind in the rim country of AZ. Shot 3 times hit him on the first and third shot. No need for the second hit. In these canyons you shoot til he drops. He went 20 yds and nose dived. Took 4 men and a quad 4hrs to pack out. It was was worth it. That was Dec of 08' This year I passed on a 2 point and a spike and these are the best for meat, both in the 500 pound range. Should have shot. Maybe next year. Today is the opening day to put in for 2010 season.I wish myself luck to be drawn 3 in a row. Robert

If just another elk hunt for 3-400lb bulls then the 25 wssm is a different breed, you need to do some research on that one before you buy but, it would be the best performance wise unless you wanted to go with a wildcat 6.5 or .338 wssm. the 6.5 or 6.8 need to be held to short range under 200 unless you can push a 110 Nosler or Barnes to 2900fps+, and it has to be a perfect broadside heart/lug/spine shot. |

One of the WSSM variants would be just the ticket in the AR-15 platform. Oly Arms is chambering the .300 OSSM. Suppose to come close to .30-06 ballistics. That would be just the ticket. Dtech would be another option.

Remington R-25 in 308.
