DPMS 338 Federal, Mako GL-Shock stock, Timeny trigger, Bushnell 6x24 scope. Great rifle for feral hogs here in Texas.

Here is the current status of my Oracle project.  So far all I've installed are the mil spec receiver extension, CTR stock, and MOE+ grip.  I'm still waiting on the JP gas block front sight, and a gas tube.  Once those arrive, I can install the Criterion 18.5" light profile barrel with rifle length gas, under the 12" TRX-308 handguard.  I can't wait to ditch that big fat Oracle barrel... the Criterion should lighten it up considerably, even though it is 2.5" longer than the factory one.  In factory trim, the rifle was 8 lbs. unloaded with no optics... I'm hoping to be at or under that weight with the new setup.  Really and truly, I will be happy if it weighs less than the M-14 it is replacing, which was 8.5 lbs.  I just threw the TRS-25 red dot on it so I wouldn't have a functional rifle sitting around with no sights... eventually it is going to be getting a TAC30 1-4x.  I'm thinking of painting the whole thing coyote/FDE before I put it all together.

Heres mine that started out as an LR 308. Has been in progress for a year. Some details include Rainier arms select 20 inch medium barrel, SWFA SS 10X42, DPMS upper and Lower.

Very nice.  I'm planning on painting mine all FDE as well.  I will probably do the barrel and everything, since I have it all here in parts ready to put together.  What paint did you use on yours?  I am planning on using Alumahyde II Coyote tan, which appears to be a real good match for FDE.

I used duracoat's Magpul FDE, the stock is the actual FDE straight from Magpul so you can see the colors arent 100% perfect but they are damn close

lr-308 build.  20 barrel, fulton bcg and jp bolt.  vortex 2.5x10x44.  don't particularly care for the upper receiver but it'll do for now.  the gunsmith (that fixed a small gasblock alignment error i was having...) said that he actually prefers those receivers as he feels they are more sturdy.  once i get another receiver, i can get the irons in a more useable configuration but it does alright now.

Not completed yet as I am still waiting for a barrel from Krieger. However, this is a mock up of mine. I'm pretty happy with it but can't freakin wait to shoot it! Started out as a stripped DPMS receiver set.

If you mean mine its a 16 inch oracle barrel with Troy 13.8 trx rail.

Cool, my rifle (post above yours) started out as an Oracle.  I went with a Criterion 18.5" lightweight barrel though, and a 12" handguard so I could have the front sight attached to the barrel.

Crappy cell pic. DPMS Oracle, 16" that I picked up last Saturday. Broke the barrel in last Sunday, ended up running 185 rounds through her

Just installed the Samson 13.8 rail, and A2 stock. The Samson rail required minor fitting as I had to file the anti-rotating pins slightly. Loving the Samson!

Temporary Nikon Monarch 4-16x44 from my bolt action until I decide what scope to use.
Leaning towards the Leupold VX-R 3-9x40 (30mm) or perhaps the Vortex Viper 3-9x40.

What gas block did you use under that Samson rail? Im wanting to put one on my lr-308. Ive never installed one before just seems any amount of torque even from the bipod and firing would cause it to move around???
Link Posted: 8/16/2013 10:04:03 AM EDT
[#33]
The gas block is a regular .750 low profile with set screws that I had laying around from a AR15 build, same gas blocks.
Once the Samson is installed its rock solid! On the DPMS you have to slightly file the anti rotation pins, other than that it slides right on.

The scope is on a ADM mount and the red dot is on an inexpensive NcStar offset mount. Cheap but solid.

Joined the DPMS family with a DPMS Oracle, swapped out the carbine hand guard for a Magpul rifle length hand guard.  Plan to get a ACS-L stock and add some BUIS.  Hope to add a suppressor sometime in 2014.

If you are referring the pic above the post, no just a rifle length hand guard.  Moved the original gas block down to hold the hand guard and installed a low pro gas block.
