I finally got my SBR stamp back, and have sold my 14.5 gov't profile pinned DD FSPM upper. It seemed to be a good upper but the rail was a bit heavy for my tatses, and I no longer require it to be pinned. It wouldnt accept my new can. I liked the DD, but I don't think I got any more out of it than I do my uppers that were half the price. It was nice, but I think my money may be spent elsewhere more smartly. My goal is to have an upper that serves me with as much accuracy, while being lighter, and less expensive.
Now I need a replacement, and I'd like to build it.
Upper - not sure either Vltor MUIR or just a quality forged - I havent decided yet. My lower is a forged seekins, and I also have an SBR'd forged crusader that isnt built yet. MUIR may send me over budget.
I need suggestions on barrel length and profile. I am open to brand too.
I want something light, but light isn't as important as accuracy. This will have a rail (not sure maybe another geissele? maybe something else) on it, and a 4x TA31 ACOG.It will be my primary carbine, so it needs to be quality. This will be my 'go to' along with my 10.5 SBR upper that gets an aimpoint.
Should I go 14.5 again, or 12"? I am thinking 14.5? I want this to be a ~1 MOA rifle but I have no delusions of grandeur. I've been looking at faxon, etc. I also saw Molon's thread on the colt barrels and how well they perform. I need it to be effective to 300 yds, but capable of shots at 500 for when I get the chance to go that far. I cant afford a rainier match barrel, nor do I think this build would do it justice. Somethign that will hold up to some occasions of rapid fire without sh***ing the bed.....
I dont exactly have a budget in mind, but I was thinking around 200ish for a barrel. Everything else spawns from there, and I can wait for sales as I am not in a huge hurry.
This will probably be the last AR upper I build for a while, but I now have a couple SBR lowers so I can do whatever I want with length.
Thoughts on profiles and lengths and brands?
