These are two similar mid/low price handguards. The first one clamps on the barrel nut. The second one fastens to the barrel nut. Is the second one a better design by nature of the engineering? Thanks!

The top one is similar to how most attach to barrel nuts.  My MI rail is like that.

I do not get the slopped front of the rail though especially on that short of a rail.

It only looks cool with a big piston gas block.

I prefer the second one. In my head I would think it would hold better but, they are probably pretty equal. My only experience is with the second type though....
