Morning fellas and happy Thanksgiving,

I was curious, who is currently making the lightest 15" handguard. I currently run a mp15 moe, and the carbine length is a bit limited for what I want.

Thanks in advance.

Look at Midwest Industries lightweight Mlok and K series. I think their 15" offerings are around 9oz with barrel nut

Are you shooting the Magpul edition S&W?

I would doubt it if it's a carbine length, those magpul smiths are mids.

OP, I presume you want free floating, the K series is drop in, take a look at their gen 3 free float models.
Also my personal preference is the KMR, I like the mounting system it uses, and even the alpha model is still incredibly light.

If you must have the lightest, KMR wins.   8.1 ounces for 15", including barrel nut.

I chose the MI Keymod because I didn't want to get involved with magnesium.  I believe MI, 2A, and KMR are the lightest ones available.

You should also check out Fortis. Their 14" rails are longer than 14" and very light. I love mine.

The ALG EMR is not the lightest, but still pretty damn light.  Plus they are having a damn good sale on them this weekend

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am running the magpul moe model, but it's a carbine length gas system or whichever poster it was that asked about that. Would it be difficult to swap in a midlength gas system in the process? I already have to remove the front post for the new gas block anyway.

Thanks again

The length of the gas system is based around the gas port in your barrel. Unless you're getting a new barrel with a gas port for midlength gas, it'll cost you a lot of money and hassle to change from carbine to mid. Even then, I personally wouldn't suggest it because after the time and money it would be cheaper just to get another barrel.

ESPECIALLY with barrels out there like Ballistic Advantage, Faxon, etc.

Like the previous post says, if you want to change to a mid gas system you really need a new barrel.

However, you lose nothing by proceeding with your current carbine gas barrel unless you have a pinned muzzle device.  After you buy your 15" hand guard and new gas block, if you don't like the rifle just take it apart, buy a new mid gas barrel (I vote for Faxon), and put it back together.

Thanks again fellas. I've been looking at Midwest Industries and it looks they have several options between 9.3 and 10.8 oz. I'm partial to the mlok series since I have several magpul components already and could use them on the new rail. Does anyone happen to have any pictures of their FDE coloration? I've looked in the MI pic threads and can only find all black.

Perfect. Thanks so much

I was hoping it was on the lighter side, seems like that matches the surroundings here quite well.
