I got a Mk14 in and it looks like it may be possible to mod it for a carbine carbine length FSB on the 9.5" model; a carbine or mid length FSB on the 13" model; and a carbine, mid length, or rifle length FSB location on the 15" model. All of the taper pins line up with the holes in the bottom of the rail. The only thing is the rail has to rotate more than the MK8 does to install the taper pins. You'd have to remove a bit more material from the inside surface of the set screw anti-rotation tabs to get it to rotate far enough. If you do the set screw on the bottom of the FSB mod, you won't have to worry about the taper pins.

I wanted something lighter and slimmer and I already have lots of keymod stuff (although MLOK is easier in this application for sure).

But I went caveman on a new SLR 11.7" rail w/ 12.5" midlength barrel when the machine shop told me 3 week backlog. I think it turned out pretty spiffy. Hardest part was clearancing for taper pins while minimizing structural integrity of the rail. Instead of milling off more of the rail (and the one vein that connected all of the fins up top) I noticed the diagonal/rear leg of the FSB to slide in so I could minimize hacking on the rail.

Really happy with the outcome. Should have taken a pic pre-touch up so you could see ALL the places where work was done (most with hand files)

Recent EE purchase. Going to clean up the cuts and get as close to a "factory" look as possible. I'll finish it with a rattle can paint job.

This is a pic of how it currently sits, along with my 14.5" BCM With the Troy 12" MRF. As you can see, I love FSB cutouts. A DD is my next goal.

Damn hate I missed that. Lanbos has them for $210 all the time and another $10 shipped, which isn't bad especially if you're ordering other items.

There are folks here that turn their nose up at ARs' for cosmetic reasons like the anodizng on the upper and lower don't match, to me it gives it character.

I'm not typically into rattle canned rifles but I have to say the mismatched contrast of the upper and lower is really cool. I Like it.

I see now that not only am I late to the party but that my idea was not as unique as I thought?

Damn, you guys are knocking it out of the park with these builds.

And remember when WES (MSTN) used to post all those two tone rifles, different uppers with a old gray Colt lower.
They were awesome.

Okay, so I've got a middy FSB upper from BCM that I want to do this to. Should I use a CMR and a SiCo ASR can, or a Midwest Industries Suppressor compatible handguard and an AEM5?

I'd go 12.5"/13" hand guard with the AEM5.

What’s the best available rail out there right now? I have a 6920 that I’d like a cutout rail for.

Do you pretty much have to go with the two piece Midwest industries rail?

https://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/product-p/mctar-20xg2-fde.htm

Also, would there be any installation problems with this rail and a pinned A2 ?

ETA: NVM. I see it would be a pain in the ass. Guess this gun won’t get a cutout rail.

Centurion C4 is cake. Mounts to a std bbl nut, just have to remove delta, handguard retainer, (and bayo lug if going extended).

I see that but you still have to remove the flash hider no? Mine is pinned. Probably should have decided what rail I wanted before cutting and pinning it. May just have to put a Magpul moe sl on it.

ETA: saw a video on YouTube where you don’t need to remove the flash hider. Still more work then I want to do myself so I’ll take it to a local smith but yea C4 cutout looks like the winner.

Yeah, if you are handy/creative, MD can stay put. (I missed that yours was P/W).

If looking for Centurion,  camp out in the EE.  Prices are way better. FYI, I did see a vendor in the EE (cannot recall who???) ,but Centurion guards with a promo code for damn good pricing for new.

If you remember who the vendor is with the good pricing on the rails, please post back.  I’m in the market for one and would rather not pay that MAP pricing that everyone is asking.
