If it's a burr from a dull drill bit, the first shot will 'cure' it. But we'll let Nathan respond.

I'd be surprised faxon would be using dull bits but anything can happen. Good to know about the one shot info though. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

Good to know about the one shot info though. I know that KAK and some other more inexpensive barrel makers routinely ship the majority of their barrels with gas port burrs. I've got two Faxon barrels and both have been perfect. Just got back from the range shooting a Gunner 14.5 for the first time. Great barrel! |

It's exactly where the gas port is. But there seems to be more metal missing then just the port diameter. Like the metal missing is large then the hole itself. Which is why the patches are getting hung up on it. Compared to my other barrel the port is almost unnoticeable. If Nathan says it won't affect anything I won't worry about it. I was just surprised by the fact it's physically noticiable down the rifling while running a patch. So I would feel a projectiles path would be affected. Maybe not. I don't know. As far as the barrel extension I have the 416r stainless so they don't do the BE coated. The 4150cmv they do I believe. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

^^ That's not the gas port hole? Oh, and Nathan, why are some BEs black oxide coated and others aren't? It's exactly where the gas port is. As far as the barrel extension I have the 416r stainless so they don't do the BE coated. The 4150cmv they do I believe. We take the extra step to ream the gas port (most just drill it). This makes the port almost EXACTLY the stated diameter, but will also leave a nice hard angle. As the QPQ finish is near mirror like, its an obvious break in the rifling. You will NOT have an issue and it is NOT a burr! Shoot a few rounds and it will work itself round due to normal erosion. |

^^ That's not the gas port hole? Oh, and Nathan, why are some BEs black oxide coated and others aren't? View Quote Barrels were not coated until about 6-9 months ago, SKU dependent. We added the coating to help with corrosion resistance and to have the extension match the barrel. What it seems like is the user purchased an older barrel (older, but still GOOD!) that was not yet through the transition to black oxide. Don't worry, your barrel will perform fantastically. |

Thanks for the info Nathan. I'll build her up and run some ammo through it. Personally I'm not worried about the BE not being coated. I went by the pictures on your site which showed the 416's not coated so I didn't expect to have the BE coated anyways. Besides the treated BE is the only other different the laser engraved logo rather then bit engraved?

Most will see it on the popular SKUs such as pencils, Gunners, etc. Your barrel is bit engraved. |

Nathan,
Any idea on when the 16" 5.56 flame fluted barrel will be ready again? |

Nathan, Made it to the range for a few shots. Weather was Sunny, 69 deg. and 20 mph cross winds with gust up to 30 mph. Not exactly ideal but you have to shoot..... right! Added an acog and swapped the gi buttstock for a rogers super stoc. The complete rifle and acog weighs 6.64 lbs. Below are pics of a few targets before the wind finally won for the day. I'm very very pleased with the build!!!! Only thing left is to get a comp and get down to some serious shooting. Also included a pic of how the feed ramps lined up. All groups were fired from 100 yds., 69 deg., sunny, 20 mph cross winds with gust of 30 mph. View Quote Nice shooting. With only 4x and a serious wind factor, that's impressive! We can see the horizontal patterning in the results. Beautiful rifle and we are honored to be a part of it. |

Any chance to see any CL barrels for a slightly higher price to go against some of the bigger names? I think they'd sell very well, even in the low to mid $200's.
Though I did buy the barrel since I wanted to try a nitrated barrel, and I like the treatment/and the profile. But having the option for CL would be nice. |

you should offer this - you will sell oodles:
14.5 gunner with pinned gas block and pinned manimal flash hider (allows gas block to slide over FH so you can install whatever rail you want on pinned barrel) |

I know I'd been real interested. Just bought a 14.5" from them today. |

Hmmmm
14.7 Gunner profile with .750 pinned gas block and A2 FH turned down to .745 |

Not sure which would be more cost effective for the company, but turning down a muzzle device and keeping the current profile would yield the lightest weight over going to a larger gas block journal. Which if you're looking at or for a pencil or gunner profile, you're looking for light weight. And to my knowledge, no manufacture in their price range makes a lighter barrel.

Hi Nathan, any idea when Brownells will be getting more of your 14.5" pencil barrels?
