Nice, then I will wait.
Quick question, I just put in one of your 7.62x39 16" barrels on my AR. i understand you changed gas port sizes. Mine would eject the spent case but not load another round, i reused an old gas tube that got a little bent and im sure that's mostly the issue, but what size drill bit should I use, or can I just wallow the hole a bit if it's the old spec? |

View Quote We recommend .091" for most ARs. You can also "wallow" it but we would strongly suggest using a good bit and a small file to ensure the edges are not burred when you fire a shot. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, we will take a look at the factory. |

If the tube was bent, it's going to cause restrictions in the gas system and some extra drag of the tube on the inside of the bolt carrier gas key. Replace the tube and test before you touch the gas port. Was it mid length or carbine or rifle? I may have a spare tube of you don't want to buy a new one. Strike Industries made in Taiwan tube is hard to beat for the price. Wes |

Middy, ill order another from y'all when the new barrels are out. For now Im gonna take the tube off my other middy to narrow things down. It bent at the block at the gas hole on the way out so its def messed up
By the way i can tell the barrel is really accurate =) Bought it new from the ee. |

Equipment exchange. It was supposedly unfired, although the gas block dimples looked pretty sloppy (surely done at home), so I might try a clamp on block if I can get one to fit under my MI rail (slim). Either way I know the gas problem isn't on your end and I was super impressed by the barrel so I want one on my 556

FYI my credit card has been charged for the 11.5 inch preorder.

Any plans to do the Gunner profile in the .308 line? And send them to AIM?

So glad I came across this thread. Looking forward to working with you on. 9" 300 barrel

I hate being indecisive. I've had a 308 project sitting unfinished in the safe for over two years now. Intent is a accuracte "modern marksman's rifle" that would be good for field use as well as target shooting up to 700-100 yards.
I've been all over the place with the barrel decision, but It's pretty much come down to this choice: Faxon 18" medium tampered or the Faxon 18" heavy fluted. The medium is 4150, a hair lighter (almost literally), and would be better (in my opinion) for field use The fluted heavy is 416R, and might produce just a bit more accuracy. Honestly, it's probably six on one and half-dozen on the other, but......hmmmm.......... |
|
Wow, It only took two hours to read thru this whole string!
Thanks Nathan for all the great information. I just purchased the 14.5 medium and I got the 10.5 light in 300 blackout from AIMSURPLUS.com. Can't wait to test these two barrels out Brian |

View Quote Based on your intended usage (assuming more time on a range vs out in the field), the heavy fluted would be more to your liking. I was just out testing them this weekend and we were reaching targets at 600 without issue! The medium taper, while slightly lighter, puts more weight near the chamber and is thinner up front. The heavy fluted is better suited for "maximum accuracy" (although both are very respectable). |

I prefer more traditional field positions with a sling. If you say that they both have respectable accuracy, then I'm thinking that the medium taper better meets my needs. Thanks again! |
