Okay, Nathan I am curious now. Are you the "Nathan S." that writes on thefirearmblog.com? I was reading  the home based FFL articles and saw this -

Its been an exciting year for me personally, with the move into the industry and a move over to Cincinnati for my role at Faxon.

Great articles by the way.

I cannot confirm or deny.

Ha, well played.

Well I think google has help me to confirm that you may or may not be the same person. The "rogue" thing may or may not have helped, but I won't say anything more than that.

A sale without 5.56 gunner inventory isn't much of a sale .

Any idea when the 16" gunner may be available?

Mounted my 18" GUNNER... Wow!

I went to function test my upper the afternoon before a 3-Gun match, and it shot so well I broke my own rule about making a change to my gear in the week before a match.... Swapped out my optic, sighted it in and decided to run it.  I was getting sub-MOA groups with my accuracy loads and (most importantly) no warping or POI shift when the barrel warmed up.  I have had this issue with pencil barrels before and was hoping the GUNNER would solve that problem with a beefier profile forward of the chamber from the gas block.  Looks like it did!

The next day, I started on a long range stage and went seven rounds for six targets between 150 to 500 meters including some 4" and 6" auto-poppers at 150-200.  Took 3rd overall for the day.

Very, very impressed.  I'll probably be buying another one as a back-up.

Now.... If you guys would only build something similar for .308.... I need to build a new rifle for Heavy Optics!!

Next time I shoot some groups, I take photos.

Nice!!!!

I too have been very impressed with the performance of my 18" GUNNER.

It shoot much better than I expected from a "pencil" barrel, even when shooting 10-shot groups.

I've decided that this one is not coming out of the upper it's installed in.

A pattern has emerged...........

.223 55 gr. Wolf Gold. Can't count and shoot at the same time apparently. No more 30 rounds in the mag for me.

.223 69gr Federal Gold Medal Match with a called flyer, but I thought it went left.... so I counted it...no real matter though. Read on.

Across 51 rounds in 5 different weights and manufacturers in two different pressures, she has a  average mean radius... (the ATC number)... of 1.051". That tells me a lot but, most importantly, it tells me I'm at the limit of my optic (2MOA Aimpoint H-1). The barrel is capable of much more. It tells me I could benefit from a variable. It also clearly demonstrates the futility of using extreme spread as any kind of meaningful metric. An almost pointless number.
It also tells me Molon is someone everyone should listen to. I don't care who you are or what you do.  Some kinda freaky super genius.....type guy.  Thank you for the wisdom good sir

I recently purchased one of the 14.5 inch pencil profile barrels based on reading this thread. The quality so far is nice. It fits the receiver snug and functioned 100%. The finish is very nice too. I have not tested accuracy yet but can't wait. Thanks for being so forthcoming with info Faxon.

Nathan,  what's it looking like for the 10.5" 300BLK barrels coming back in stock?  I had a stainless on order through an unnamed company, but they canceled the order and said the stainless was no longer available.  At any rate, I'm thinking of using one in a 300blk build dedicated for supers.  I dig the weight and profile> and all of the great customer service I've been reading in this thread!

So back 15 years ago when I made those sheets, the very first one I did was 7.62 / .308 win.

When I copied the sheet for 223 and made a bunch of copies, I forgot to change the "win" to "rem" . I no longer have the spreadsheet file so I just copy a blank on the copier lol.

Never really paid attention to it much. Now its actually bothering me, lol.

Thanks for giving me ocd

My flame flute 16" stainless QPD 5.56 Faxon barrel just came in yesterday.  The box was waiting for me at the door, so I got right too it after waiting on back order, I was ready to swap out my barrel.

Fit and finish are great.  This thing is a price of art.

It sits on a Anderson upper with YHM Toad Jarret Hand guard and flash hider., all tamed by an SLR clamp on adjustable gas block.

Lower is modular arms 80%, SSA trigger with JP captured buffer/spring.

Can't wait to get it on the range.  If it shoots half as good as it looks, it will be a winner. Unfortunately the rain here in Texas just does not want to stop.  Will post up brake in pics.

I will be hand loading for this.

Any advice on break in method?

Well for me..load 30 rounds... fire... repeat.
There is a break in process on the Faxon Website, but (and this is me here)... its a melonited barrel.
Research says that the finish is way too tough for a formal break in to have any real meaningful effect. Its not like you are going to fire lap the barrel, because the QPQ finish is WAY too hard. My take..for what its worth.

You see my results. Using mean radius, I get a data point for every round fired. Not just two out of ten.
That paints a much better picture about what you, the barrel, and your chosen barrel food are capable of.

Good call on the adj. gas block. I will be adding that to "The List".
And you have glass.  Very nice. I gonna go out on a limb and say you'll be happy.
Post em up after you kill the paper...with extreme prejudice

WOW. I need to find a girl like a Faxon barrel. Sexy and shoots straight.

First up was some Winchester 5.56 M855 62 gr.  Sighting in then letting her rip.  Sorry no fancy moa calculator.  Granted these are at 50 yards, which I like to zero to.

Squares are 1"

Then I tried out some TSX 70 gr over H-335 that I hand on hand to try out. I think I like the looks of the 23 gr load the best. No pressure signs.
I also left the adjustable gas block as set for the M855.  I am sure I can closer her down a little as I come to my ultimate load, which is go ing to be lost of fun.  I think I will pick up a box of TSX 62 g.to try next.

Does anyone know if Aim Surplus discontinued their 16" Gunner package with pinned gas block?  Like many folks, I've been waiting for several months for Aim to list them back in stock, but after so long, perhaps they've given up on that package idea. I really really don't want to drill-and-set-screw a gas block, but if that's the only option then so be it.

I wouldn't hold my breath for AIM. Even if they let you back order the barrel, there could be dozens of orders before yours and you'll never know it. I went through several cycles of that. They never had enough to make it to the "in stock" phase. I got my 16" Gunner through Black River Tactical and ordered the gas block direct from Faxon.

You might get lucky, and the inclusion of the pinned gas block from AIM is a good deal. It's certainly worth giving them a try, just have an alternate plan in place.

IMHO, whatever you have to do to get a Gunner barrel is worth it.

The GUNNER is definitely worth the effort.  So is AIM if you are patient and want a pinned gas block.  But I can understand how frustrating it is that AIM always seems to be out of stock.  I was lucky enough to get my GUNNER from AIM and it was in stock for a matter of hours.
The word is out on the GUNNER.  It is a sought after barrel, which makes it out of stock in a lot of places.  Can't really fault AIM for the high demand, and I'm glad that Faxon is not compromising any quality just to produce more barrels.  I'd rather wait a little bit for quality than be in a rush for compromise.

You should only expect ~3 MOA with m193. You might get better but that would be an oddity. See Molon's post Attack of the (M193) Clones.

That looks awesome!

I was thinking about adding a FSB to my 18" Gunner the other day. For now, I pulled the scope off and threw on a carry handle and a LMT rail mount front sight that's at the front of my 15" Geissele rail. I'm excited to see how well I can shoot with this combo at 200 yards next month during the service rifle match. It may not be a legal setup for competition, but I'll at least get some practice in. Even with the 15" rail, it handles really well. I love that GUNNER profile.

Hey all, hoping you guys can tell me what my personal preference is..  I'm feeling torn between  the 16" pencil and the 18" gunner.

Is it abuse to work through 4 or 5 mags on a <5minute drill with the 16" pencil? Normally we are to poor to train like that but it does happen.

Thanks :) can't wait to turn all my money into noise, with faxons help :)
