I thought I saw this style of barrel in the new Spikes lower thread......not my cup of tea, but I'm sure the Ninja's will rejoice!

Finned is kind of old school but it probably does double the surface area for cooling. Most of the older guns you could see it on were belt fed and all were full auto.

I would think to dissipate heat like the old radiators in houses.

A good example of these barrels uses were on the old Thompson.

I can't afford enough ammo to need that.
 But if you see someone w/ one, assume he's rich enough to spare you some ammo, and not a mall ninja.
