I am not making this thread to bash any companies. This is NOT my gun. I simply saw the photos on a gun group on facebook.
story goes "Buddy of mines Polymer Lower!! Pulled it out of gun cabinet by barrel and it slipped from his hand and dropped maybe 2ft onto a carpet floor.. " no clue as to the validity of the story, but that thing obviously snapped lol

Although I agree that the rifle probably started out with a loaded magazine and off "safe", before being broken and they removed the bolt group. Really high speed, low drag type of operator there. |

Thanks for sharing. Polymer has its place but it's not in the lower of an AR15 (GWACS lower is the exception IMO).

It could be an unloaded magazine. I keep unloaded magazines in many of my guns so they don't get mixed up in my AR stuff.

I just dont get the market for the polymer lowers. An aluminum lower adds very little weight to the rifle, you can buy a stripped lower for $80 or less if you look around for a blemish, and an aluminum lower is certainly strong and durable enough for the application.

I was just given a ATI stripped lower for free and am putting it together for a light weight rig for the women shooters.
I won't trust it to HD use but everyone I have shot worked just as good as my aluminum ones. |

Wow that ATI lower didn't take much abuse at all. Oddly enough my New Frontier Armory Lowers are holding up fine and are sort of on beater guns. Literally 1000s of rounds through them without fail. not saying polymer is better, just that the New Frontier ones are doing OK. I have many more Aluminum, and think Aluminum is superior, but the New Frontier is surprisingly OK.

I always look at this stuff, remember the line "you get what you pay for," and Chive on.
If the world fell into chaos, a lot of people would learn their cheap rifles and junk ammo (that some of them were so strongly advocating for everyone to use) would fail them. Sure, some of the best brand rifles would fail or break parts, but in a much much lower percentage. |

I consider condition 2 and 1 pistols a lot more dangerous and worrisome than having something as big and bulky as a rifle or shotgun "accidentally" chamber itself. |

Saw polymer lowers for around $60-$70 at the gun show last Saturday while DPMS lowers were $99. I bought a couple of DPMS lowers.
Unless it's a reputable company I would not buy a polymer lower. The brands I saw I had never heard of before.

Ouch!
Polymer lowers are cheaper, but that's not really the driver. For me, the half pound weight savings is dramatic - and desirable. If they all break like this upon being dropped, then that's not going to work. I'm not clear yet if this is a fluke, or if these really are that tender. I'd love it if there were a basic non-destructive stress test one could do to see if it's prone to breaking like this. |
