THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT My planned build is for a lightweight, DI rifle with top shelf components and internals. I also plan on using a NiB coated bolt carrier and bolt to reduce cleaning time and lack of lubrication failures with high round count. The final option is coating the rifle in flat dark earth Gun Kote or Druacoat. Any opinions will be appreciated! |

Dimpling, fluting, I think it's really all the same. The increased surface area "sholud" make it run cooler, but I've never seen any hard data proving one way or another. I do think that dimpling looks pretty neat, especially the jobs done by Marvin Pitts. KAC seemed to have started the craze and now Adco and others will do it for a fee. It may reduce the weight a bit, but not anything like reprofiling would do. As far as coating the rifle, you should look at Ceracoating as opposed to the expensive auto paints. The specs on it blow the others out of the water. Also look into hydrographic transfer. Also a novel way to refinish a rifle...or whatever you have. Best of luck either way.

I will give my opinion but opinions do not really matter when it comes to aesthetics. The real question is what do you like?
I think dimples look awful and I would choose fluting over dimpling anytime. A good bolt gun looks great with fluting. When it comes to an ar I would just get a lighter profile and leave it alone. |

Go witha lighter profile unless you want to throw it farther
