GearScout says these are already shipping...but no info whatsoever on Diamondhead's own website.

I'm digging the look, but would love to find out price and weight on these?

Interesting.

TAG for more info.

They look like they'd feel pretty good in the hands.

Tagged as well.

I'm in the market for a light weight solution. It'll be interesting to see how this stacks up to some of the other options.

ETA: Well, google-fu pulls up some more info. Still not finding weight specifics noted.

There's some hi-res close-up's on Defense Review form SHOT 2012

TAGGED!  I like it also.

I would like to see a  view of the underside.

BTW:
I consider the abundance of handguard choices available for the AR to cause the most anguish in building one..

Thanks for that info. I am not worried so much about weight, if it's a bit heavier than expected, I'll get use to it.

I love the idea of the anti rotation tabs on either side of the upper receiver better than the anti-rotation ring and set screw.

Received a reply to my email about weight and width of the V-RS-T 13.5" handguard.

Weight is 14 oz and width is 1.99 inches.

Definitely would like to see it.  what are you putting it on? Barrel length?

I am thinking of throwing that one on my 16" 22lr, but the 22lr barrel is recessed so the actual length exposed is 14.5

thinking this could work to turn that into a dissy style.

First off. Diamondhead's proprietary barrel nut is KING!! The way it installs is genius. It is an actual nut, requiring a large wrench. No AR tools. The two hex head screws run through the handguard and into the two grooves that are around the barrel nut, locking it on, with not only a rail system fashion, but with the pressure of the screws clamping the hanguard to the barrel nut. Also, no need to fiddle with torque specs as you do not have to line anything up for the gas tube.

Like I said.........."Genius"

I do not have it fully installed yet, because I need a wrench large enough and have to figure out how to get a torque reading on it. Next stop, Home Depot.

Here's a view of the underside, as requested. There is room for rails all down the underside, minus the rear 3 inches or so.

Side view w/ foregrip installed:

I am definitely not a fan of how the side rails seem to look out of place. I do love how sleek this thing looks and I wanna keep it that way. So, I will probably run my light with all under rails.

Side view:

Top angle view

Bottom view:

I just used my iPhone for these. More pics to come, with a better camera, once she's all together.

No dice on the good camera. But...............POW! This oughta hold you over.

I moved the grip forward more. It's great in this position. I can grip by the mag well, hold it on the handguard or the forgrip. PERFECTION!

I'll will still get better pics.

that is so damn badass! i'm even more convinced that diamondhead is the way to go. i really like this handguard but i'm actually stuck between this one and the VR-S "X" version. the main reason i am considering the X over the T is because the rail additions will probably look better on the sides than on the T, and also might be a bit lighter. so i am torn between the 2. Hopefully I can make a decision. only thing i got left to question is the gas block, cause i'm actually in the process of building my upper, my lower is complete so starting my upper, dont have the barrel or the gas block yet, so does this barrel come with a low profile gas block or do i need to order one elsewhere? if so, where can i order it?
Link Posted: 8/18/2012 2:29:25 AM EDT
[#17]
You have to order your own. I got mine for $20 or so at surplusammo.

FYI. You will need to buy a crowsfoot wrench to get proper torque specs. It the only way I found. I still need to get one to make sure all is where it should be, before taking her out to the range.

How long is that barrel? Is that a 14.5"?!? I'm trying to decide on whether I get the 13.5 or the 10.25 for my 14.5" barrel..

Top: 10 1/4"
Bottom 11 5/8"

Another FYI. Rail sections for this rail seem pretty much proprietary. The screw holes are 1 5/8" apart. A 7" rail for this thing is $22 or so. I found that the polymer  L5 (11 slot) rail fits perfect. The Magpul L5 is 5" of rail and only $9.99.

Okay, so its a lil longer than the advertised 10.25" listed? Sounds better every time you post something.... I'm gonna order next week after payday I think.

FYI.

Magpul L5 Rails fit on this Handguard.

They are polymer and 2" less than the full length ones sold on the Diamondhead website, but half the price. ;)

Yeah, I saw the DH ones on their site, but they are like $60 for a set of 3, I'm probably gonna us my M900 to keep putting too may TactiCool accessories on it so I'll probably get those Magpul L5s, shoot, I might just order them now since my self control is at a minimum!!!LOL

I don't know if your talking to me or not, but the upper, lower and rails are going to be burnt bronze, everything is will remain black.  I don't now how its gonna look with those rails, but I've seen burnt bronze with other rifles and it looks sick!!!

I dunno, the rail hasn't shown up yet, they say by tuesday, I am sending the upper, lower and rail to San Antonio, Texas to get Cerakoted, so however long that takes, I have most of the stuff to finish the build on order as well.... I'll get them us ASAP, but I'll post pics as I go..

Alright, the rails arrived yesterday, the Seekins lower and DPMS LoPro upper are already here... Change of plans however, I will be having Reaper, Hydrographics on top of duracoat applied to the rails, upper and lower, everything else will be black..... No one does Cerakote anywhere near me and I'm done dealing with FFL holders, pain in the @$$!!!!!

Nice set up plan on getting the 10.25 for my next build. How solid is the rail any movement do you think there is a possibility of foward movement. With all the free float rail out there that is my main concern.

I just installed a 13.5 on my new build and it's rock solid. If you look at Atticaz install pics earlier in the thread the cap screws that tighten the rail to the barrel nut go into the two grooves on the barrel nut preventing any forward movement. For anti-rotation the have two tabs built into the rail that go along the upper. I'll get some pics up later on tonight.
