in my experience, the devices that try and do both(brake/flash suppressors) don't do well at either.

Tacticool yeah to some, flash hider probably, brake/compensator no way. Spend the 120 bux on a Surefire MB556 brake or 50 bux on a Smith Vortex FS and you'd be much more happier. Don't try the 'jack-of-all'-style muzzle devices, as they say, 'master-of-none'

Thank you for your replies. I'd still like to hear from someone who's actually tried this device, though. I'm looking for first hand experience––not theory or opinions.
Obviously, the ECLIPSE is not going to provide as much recoil or muzzle rise reduction as a well designed brake or as much flash suppression as a Vortex, Blackout or Phantom. The PWS FSC556 doesn't do that, either. But it does provide significant recoil and muzzle rise reduction and suppresses flash as well as an A2 flash suppressor. That's my first hand experience––not just manufacturer claims. Recent tests have also confirmed the effectiveness of the Neth/PWS DNTC brake design. LINK 1, LINK 2 While the Neth/PWS DNTC brake design may not be the most effective, it does reduce recoil by 40 to 50% and reduces muzzle rise. Sales of the PWS FSC556 suggest there is a market for this type of device. According to Denny at Global Tactical: "My design criteria was to . . . minimize flash and muzzle rise to allow fast follow up shots or full-auto fire . . . without excessive muzzle blast . . .within a compact design that did not add excessive weight or length" It's basically intended to be a flash suppressing comp (like the A2 muzzle device––just more effective) He also claims to have tested it with a Mil Spec ANPVS-14 Gen 3 and says the ECLIPSE does not cause the ANPVS-14 to shut down. That's a start, but I'd still like to see side by side video comparing the ECLIPSE with an A2 muzzle device the FSC556 and a BattleComp. The brake portion of the Global Tactical device (multiple upward facing ports) is very similar in design to the Springfield Armory Socom 16 brake, which has a decent reputation. Denny just added flash suppressing prongs, which is what PWS did to the DNTC to come up with the FSC556. |
