Oh man those are nice, I thought seeing some pics might make me feel better while I waited but it just makes me want more... Have you gotten them out on the range, if so how do you like them? By the way thanks, you don't see a lot of pics of the AXTS it being such a new product and all. Hopefully that will change.

I have been trying to buy one of these for several months now. Are they for sale? How do you go about getting one? Every time I check their site, it says "out of stock".

Thanks!

You place an order anyway and get put on a waiting list. I'm about 6 weeks in and I spoke with Abe at AXTS yesterday and he said it would probably be another 4-5 weeks, they told me 10 weeks in the first place. It's become pretty common to backorder just about everything these days.

Nice rifle mind giving us some specs, and have you gotten it out to the range yet? If so what's your opinion on the lower, function etc. Thanks

Very nice, optics?

Still working on that. It's a toss up between a T-1 and an Accupoint 1.254x24

- Noveske Mid-Length 14.5" Light Carbine LO-PRO
- AXTS Weapons AX556
- Battle Arms CASS-3P, SA 45' Ambi Safety Selector
- Vltor MUR
- Vltor A5 Extension & Buffer
- Magpul STR / Magpul MIAD / Magpul ASAP
- Geissele Super Dynamic Combat (SD-C)
- AAC Blackout 51T

Yeah It shoots really smooth, no problems at all. The form and function of the lower are top notch - a tight fit with no gap between it and the MUR. Battle Arm's CASS-3P is fantastic as well.

I was just curious whether this lower(AX556) is different or the same to build, as compared to a regular lower. There's a few different parts compared to a regular lower and I have not seen anyone comment on the build difficulty. I can't see the bolt catch pin in any of the pictures and I'm wondering if has a set screw or a roll pin. I'm kind of worried about this one, don't wanna mess up a $500 lower by scratching it. Any info would be appreciated.

The bolt catch uses a set screw.  AXTS has quite possibly thought of everything to make it as easy as possible.  Don't quote me, but I don't believe there are any roll pins in assembling the lower.  Everything is either machined in (like the trigger guard) or uses a set screw (like the bolt catch and right side bolt release).  As far as assembly goes they say if you can put together a lower you can put together this kit.  If you go to this link here:

Click Me

You can see a list and pictures of all the parts...in them you can see the set screw for the bolt catch.  Everything seems very straightforward and easy.

I did look at this list when I ordered, I guess I just did not realize those were set screws. That's great it will make up for my novice building skills. AXTS sent me an e-mail last week and said I'm about 5 weeks out from receiving my lower, great customer service to keep us in the loop, I ordered about 6 weeks ago. They said they've had problems getting parts from their parts supplier this confirms what Bad Inc. said in another thread and also said their anodizer who is in high demand because of their quality has also gotten behind but AXTS said they will not use anyone else because of the rave reviews they are getting for the finish. I saw that you were going to order An AX also so I thought I'd give you the info I received. Also once I receive and assemble my lower I'll post something in this section about function and build.

Many thanks...I had been e-mailing Abe back and forth all last week and he gave me the time frame of late June/early July.  I've been having issues getting ahold of my FFL, but decided I couldn't wait any longer.  I ordered mine this morning to be safe that I didn't get pushed too far back.  I'd rather wait longer and have a top notch lower (especially for $500) than get it next week and perhaps risk getting a crummy finish or build.  Praise goes to AXTS for demanding the best and not cutting corners to increase volume.

I received an email from Abe at AXTS yesterday on the status of my AX556 lower and its delay has to do with their production of the Raptor charging handle. He said as we've heard before they are a small buisness and are experiencing the pains of rapid growth. They are currently producing the Raptor to meet the deadline set with Rainier. They will be shipping to Rainier June 13th at the latest. For those of you that have been waiting on your AX556 lower they had scheduled the last batch just before they planned to start running the Raptor and found they were short material from their supplier, so they could not wait and ramped up production on the handle. So it seems as soon as they get material in they will start filling orders for lowers again, and they gave a possible shipment date end of June. They said they would do there best to beat it. Abe is doing a great job of keeping us in the loop and I'm in no hurry, as I see it probably all orders that coincide with time window of the Raptor announcement (I ordered mine March 7th and the announcement was the 17th) and there after will be delayed. It's a little frustrating cause I can't wait to have it in my hands but I understand they are doing their best.  Also when I spoke with Abe a while back he said they do have plans to make a matching upper for the AX556 with the possibillity of offering matching serial numbers to those who already have a lower, I for one can't wait to see what they come up with. Congrats to AXTS it looks like your gonna be a big hit in the industry, keep up the good work.

That is extremely exciting news.  I have been planning out how I want to do my build and what parts I want to use and just settled on the Vltor MUR since that was the closest thing I could find that would match.  I'd was really hoping they would design a matching upper that would go with it for awhile now.  Also...Abe if you somehow happen to see this, you should try to make it adjustable!  Something like this:

http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/ar-15-05/upper-parts/upper-receivers-1/innovative-arms-warfighter-adjustable-receiver.html

I've been searching for adjustable low pro gas blocks that would fit under a rail that have actual settings like the Noveske Switchblock instead of just allen screws that you have to guess with.  I've found nothing and that is the only upper I've ever seen that has gas adjustments on the actual receiver.  With how innovative AXTS is with their new products I think it would be a great offering!

Also glad to hear they are still on for the estimate they gave me awhile back of end of June or early July...the end is in sight!

I also was planning on a different upper to match the AX, probably Seekins Billet upper, but now I'm going to wait. It will probably be a while with all they've got going now but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Will keep you posted if I hear anything else.

Yeah, I'd be pumped for an AXTS upper receiver.. no adjustable gimmicks though please!

Also.. I'm a bit curious how you'd have matching serial numbers between an upper and lower...

I don't know either but thats what he told me...most uppers don't even have serial numbers as far as I know, unless it's tucked away somewhere I haven't looked and I've cleaned every nook and cranny of that thing a zillion times. Maybe it will be something special with their uppers. Also they confirmed on their facebook page that they will be making an upper but no info on timeline yet as far as features go and I quote "It'll be sweet!". Very good news indeed.

I'm guessing it'd be something that was just serial numbered for collectors sake...nothing that actually pertained to legality.  Also, how is an adjustable gas system a gimmick?  A gimmick would imply that it is a feature that serves no purpose other than to try to entice buyers without function.  Perhaps you don't shoot suppressed, but for those that have made the investment for a suppressor the benefits of an adjustable gas system are wonderful...if you don't want to shoot suppressed then don't mess with the switch.  Honestly though I can't see the actual manufacturing between one with an adjustable system and one without differing by much more than an extra hole and a switch....I'd assume once they figured out the method then they could produce both.

So some bad news guys...I was on Facebook looking at the AXTS page and saw someone ask about ship dates for the AX556.  They had said to email them so I sent them an email about a week ago.  Just got a response and this is verbatim what it said:

"We're not going to make the early July timeframe. Sorry. I will update everyone on a firmer ship date once we get our production schedule for the next month firmed up. Again, very sorry for the additional delay. The industry is slammed right now....

Regards,

Abe Underwood"

Looking like we could be in for an August delivery now

Understandable with how much demand there is right now, and it'll be worth the wait, but still slightly saddening.

BLAH!  I ordered at the beginning of March.  I'm patient but this wait is rough...especially because I'm registering both the lowers I ordered as SBR's...which puts me out another 6 months until I can use them from the time I receive them.

Thanks for the update though btm!  I sure hope these lowers are worth the wait!

You could still use them...just with an upper that's over 16" or put a pistol receiver extension on it and use your SBR setup

Good news, I received an e-mail from Abe at AXTS and he said they will be sending my lower out next Friday. (I placed my order on 3-7-2012) I will update you here about the build, he also said the Raptor charging handles are being made and sent out right now(for Rainier)...so look for those some time next week. Once they send the ordered amount to Rainier they will be available on AXTS's site also.

nata,

Is your order still set to ship out today?  I believe you must have been one of the few lucky ones.  I just received an e-mail from Abe yesterday that said my lower order will be pushed back another 60 days (placed 5/1).  They were offering to make up for it by offering me a Raptor for the Rainier $59.99 price which is awesome...except I lucked out and got my order in through Rainier and already bought one.  I asked them if there was anyway to instead just upgrade to expediting shipping when it was ready to go.  If not, I'll probably buy another handle and sell the one I bought to someone for the discounted price so someone else can get in on the good pricing.  Did you want/get one in the initial Rainier order?

No, I got an e-mail from Abe yesterday and he said the anodizer called him 2 hours before they were to be picked up (yesterday) and said they would not be done until late Mon. early Tues. so the wait is almost over. Abe said he gave them an earfull, and also that he was sorry... Oh well what's a few more days. I too was offered the intro price on the Raptor a couple/3 weeks ago and had to keep myself from posting that news here, did not think it would go over well with all the people waiting for this thing and did not want them spoiling it by calling AXTS or Rainier and complaining. I placed an order with Abe, although I did get notified by Rainier and just for fun went to see if I could order one and I could, put it right in the cart. Hey if you were offering to sell your Raptor from Rainier to me thanks, very good of you but since I placed an order with Abe already I'll just stick with that. I'm sure you won't have a problem finding someone to buy it. I'll let you know when my lower is in the mail but the time frame he gave you will be about how long it has taken to get mine (placed 3/7) and to think I was gonna wait until the end of the summer, glad I did it when I did. Sorry you have to wait longer maybe once the Raptor craze has calmed they will be able to move your ETA, thanks again.
