I dont have pictures of the over the barrel flash hider but I know you can get them here and here too
Some people use the 5.5" flash hider to add length to a barrel when not shooting with a can but I dont think many use the one that is over the barrel. 4.5" barrel under the hand guard without the can on 
and with the 5.5" flash hider to bring the muzzle out from under the hand guard when shooting unsuppressed

If you want a muzzle device that slips over the barrel maybe a slip over fake suppressor ?

I use one like the one pictured on my 9mm SBR.
I also have one like the OP talks about. All it does is make a 16" look more like a Commando and add a little weight. They can be found - its just been so long since I got mine I forget where I got it... Bushmaster maybe?

Yes Bushmaster used to have it to slip over their pencil 16" carbine barrel to make it look like a shorty XM177. I still have mine but no longer on the barrel, added too much weight. Brownells had it but since discontinued:
