I bought these which were listed as genuine Colt factory handguards.  I have never seen this method for attaching the heat
shields and was wondering if they may have used this method at some
point.  Thanks!

*these are the slim type handguards with single heat shields*

All of mine are double heatshield, those appear to be single?

Edit: read the printing on the bag...single.

Source??

I think the plastic alone is single shield and the metal liner is double. I think that's what my Colt guards look like.

Edit: Nope, I was wrong. My 6920's have two metal shields.

Yeah, these were the slim single heat shield type, which is what I wanted. Not the fat M4 style with dual heat shields. I've just never seen the heat shield attached the way these are, the only ones I've seen slip into the grooves near the top.

I ordered three sets from eBay, but only received one. Honest mistake, I think, but I was thinking about just cancelling the other two sets.

M4 double has 2 aluminum heatshields.

OP, yours appear to be the "skinny" version?

Mine are M4 oval, I do not know much on the skinnys.

Good luck.

The heat shields look like Bushmaster or Rock River. And they are seven hole. IIRC the Colt's are six?

7 hole... The older Colts were 6 hole, an they switched to 7 hole later (late 90's I think?).  I just didn't know if this was some newer version I had never seen where the heat shields were held in by those plastic pieces at the bottom.

I don't think Colt ever made 7 hole handguards.  They made the 6 Hole Handguards up to the 90s and converted to the double shield fat handguards.

If anybody knows elsewhise I'd love to know!

You might be right... I could be wrong, but I thought they made 7 hole skinny handguards in later years.

Those are not colt from my knowledge.
ive just learned of something called expanse parts.. so no telling.

The Colt Expanse utilizes those handguards. 7-hole CAR with the male and female tabs. I have a set in my parts bin that I bought from a member here who sold me the furniture from his new Expanse rifle.

Damn Expanse series.

Those look like a set of the Expanse HG's I have sitting here on the couch, I really wish Colt would make a way to distinguish the differences, I ended up with two sets of Expanse HG's before I finally got what I was looking for to do a Model 727 resto I am working on.

When you bring the Expanse line into it, it seems as if you never get what you think you are getting, that particular rifle line has no uniformity to it from what I have seen.

Colt handguards usually have the heat shields glued in.

A little, I'd never seen any attached at the bottom like these are, with those six little nubs.

I guess if they are "expanse" handguards, he wasn't technically misrepresenting them.  Lesson learned.

Same, but like I said, mine are the ovals.

And yes, the Expanse "technically" are Colt, but so far from it in reality. Alot of confusion associated with that series.

I sold these recently on EE, only photos I have of them now, from either a early 90's Colt Sporter Lightweight or a 2007 ish Colt 6450

Those look about like any other set I've ever seen, with the tabs at the top that go into the grooves.  I had never seen a set like the one I posted.

OP, took these just for you.  Fresh off a Colt M4 upper, but these are current double heat shield HG's, not sure if this helps.

Thanks, and can you confirm you mean seven hole skinny handguards with the single heat shield?  We have established the new Expanse has some new version like this but I mean pre-Expanse line.

Oh I see, that I can not confirm.  I was speaking generally.

These are the skinny 7-hole hand guards that came on a restricted LE6721.

Those have the male & female tabs like the Expanse handguards, but not the little nipples that the heat shields attach to. So that it can be said, I love the Expanse set that I have. They feel like very quality made handguards. I have a cheap set of A2 handguards on hand (sold to me as either Rock River or Stag, can't remember which), and the Expanse handguards don't feel anything like that flimsy, thin set.

They lock down solid on the 6721 upper. I had to dig out a hand guard removal tool to get them off so I could take a picture.
