I've been playing a lot of the new Doom recently and its got me on a futuristic firearm kick. You know what I mean; super sleek weapons developed by space-age capitalist defense corporations, usually seen in games, movies or whatever set in the not to distant future.

I've got an SBR that I want to transform. If you have something on the cutting edge post it here, I need the "inspiration."

LOL! I've seen that movie numerous times and never once caught that.

Just doing some random google searches yielded some interesting samples;

The VLTOR CASV has always reminded me of the M41A when they're used on SBRs, for some reason. Might be something to consider if you want an "improved conventional weapon" look instead of "laser rifle."

Here's some picturesof one on a SBR.

That looks pretty awesome! It's not too expensive either.

How do you guys paint the white finish on these builds? Is that a cerakote of some sort? The white juxtaposed with the black looks stellar.

It looks like a rifle Weyland-Yutani would have produced so...

Thanks! It was cerakoted indeed.

Just a fair warning however - white cerakote seems to have the tendency to chip more so than darker colors. If you're not totally in love with white, perhaps you could do a battleship grey/black combo.

The stock reminds me of Barbarella's rifle. If you decide to change it up, a faux wood paintjob would be cool.

Oh hot damn, that is one nice beam rifle. Guessing NU gundam based?

I really need to get started on finishing my build.

This is my incomplete dream future rifle build, was thinking about going themed with it, however I haven't decided what it should be exactly. Was considering Hi-nu though, but it seems you beat me to the punch. xD

It does, doesnt it? When you live a state with odd gun laws, why make it look like a neutered rifle when you can theme it up?

Haha, I'm glad someone gets the reference! Indeed it is modeled after Nu Gundam

I like the side charger and magwell cuts on yours - I bet it'll look pretty futuristic with translucent lancer mags. If you go with Hi-Nu color scheme - the upper in indigo and lower in white would be pretty unique, then add some grey here and there. Or indigo faded striped. Another option would be to do something Titans themed.

Some other general parts ideas for a futuristic build:

F-1 Firearms Reciever Set:

SI Fake Can coupled with muzzle brake (This would hide any exposed barrel length and run inside a free float of choice)

Lancer Carbon Fiber Handguard sets

Heh, glad to see another Gundam fan on these forums as well as another Calguns member. I was originally considering doing an F1 set for the reciever; however I decided to go the side charging route with a skeletonized mil-spec lower. And yep! I do have some Lancer Translucent mags waiting for this build. It looks sweet when inserted. :D

Currently I'm just waiting for some of the accessories like the magwell and an RMA on a scope.

Hopefully once all the components are in place I'll decide on a paint job. I was considering a Gundam theme likely Neo-zeon as a homage to my favorite mech Sazabi, a kryptek cerakote job, or a multicam dip.

If you want to go for near-future look, I'd say don't do an AR, grab Beretta's ARX-100 and SBR it.

Looks like it came straight from 2045, and it's actually a really nice rifle too and has reviewed well among Italians using it overseas. They just announced a 7.62 version if you want a bigger bang as well, although who knows when they'll get around to making a civilian version given how slow Beretta is these days.

I think Colt's 2014 revision of the 901 with their new modular handguards looks a bit futuristic too, albeit not as much as the ARX platform:

I think the MOE Rifle Stock has a futuristic look to it. Would probbly look more like a laser blaster done up in white or something, but since this rifle wasn't my first, white wouldn't be appropriate.

I was looking at that stock before and thought the same thing.

I'm surprised Magpul hasn't done a run of at least their MOE line in white. If they're going to do a sand color for desert environments then wouldn't white for arctic environments make sense?

VLTOR MUR Upper
Some fancy Billet Lower with enhanced trigger guard
VLTOR CASV-EL handguard
Short barrel - no longer than 11.5"
Magpul UBR Buttstock
Sandman S Suppressor - Flash hider when not mounted
Zeiss Z Point Optic
Fortis Shift Angle grip
Raptor Charging handle
Translucent Lancer Warfighter mags
Timney Skeletonized trigger

I think this would yield a nice blastery look.

I'll build it if anyone wants to fund it.

So I was going to get one of those PDW style stocks, either a NEA(?) or a VERT, but really couldn't justify it for the money. Instead I got one of those LWRC Ultra Compact stock kits, similar compactness but only $120 vs $400-500.

Magpul K2 grip, BAD-ASS safety lever on an Aero lower. All that paired with a nice FF 10.5 upper from Andro Corp. Once I get the stamp in it should make for a very "future-y" SBR.

Google "Space Gun 870".  I would imagine there are several out there, but someone was selling one here on the EE that got my attention.

It's a Remington 870 with a UBR stock and Magpul grip and handguard, and a full rail / heat shield across the top with shell carriers on both sides.

That does look pretty sick! I'd probably SBS it and go 14" though.

I had shown my buddy that CASV rail system and he thought it looked like garbage. I love it however; it's not as streamlined as many of the FF options out there but at least this one has some character. All those KMOD and ML rails are so overdone they're becoming boringly generic.
