Just got off the phone with 'em.

Good news.

They're for $455 plus $30 shipping. They are A2 Fixed Carry Handles for sure. They aren't police surplus but from a Security Company that works at a Nuc Plant.

Now the bad news.

They are LE/Mil sales only. Unless ypu have LE Creds or Mil ID. No go on the sale.

Fuckin dumb. Let me guess, because of the meaningless "Restricted" lower markings? I can't think of another reason why they wouldn't sell to anyone.

Nope..... because of restrictions placed by the original owner of the rifles. When you have certain LE Surplus sales, they require that they're sold only to LE. Some agencies in the past have faced bad press due to on of their surplus guns being used in a crime. Thus by demanding that they're sold only to "qualified" individuals. It helps ease the anti-gun folks in charge and they still sale them surplus instead of sending them to Captain Crunch.

The store told me that if you're LE, FF, EMT, Mil, or Qualified Security you can order one. Pretty much very similar restrictions to the Glock Blue Label Program.

Even if they were newer Bushmaster's, there is likely nothing wrong with them. I bought a new one 2 years ago. It currently has had about 4.5k rounds run through it, and as best as i can recall, it hasn't had a single failure. The point is, just don't buy into the hype that all newer Bushmasters are bad. If they are used, just make sure to inspect before you buy.

The new  Bushmasters are just DPMS guns with a different name I think.

So I called the store in Raleigh today to get more info on their rifles.

They said they are LE trade ins stamped BFI, Windham, ME USA and that they are A3s with rear flip up sights.

No restricted roll mark on these.

Price is 560 before tax.

Any recommendation on the A2 version they're selling down in SC vs. the A3 version?

I think the restricted roll mark would be cool.

A2 carbines are harder to get these days. Everyone and their mother is building a A3 rifle. You can build a complete new A3 style rifle for $500 or less. The market is awash in parts. Just this past weekend, I was able to price out a complete rifle for $480 through all the Memorial Day sales going on. I didn't domit because I don't want another flat top rifle.

Cleaned her up, swapped out the factory bushmaster skinny handguards for a set of skinny Colt handguards that I already had painted. I'm going to paint the rifle eventually so I figured I'll keep an unmolested set around. I also ground off the finger rest on the pistol grip.

I wouldn't paint it. It looks fing awesome.  I like the green handguarde, too.

I bet it has seen no more than 50 rounds through it.

That's a Colt forge coded upper receiver. Nice score.

The one around here wont even sell to retired LE/Mil.  Recent decision within the last year or so.  My GF's dad used to find sweet deals all the time there and then bam, no more

Because God forbid it have a carry handle, a standard sight base, and not be covered in Magpul nonsense.

Only thing I'd change on it (addressed to MiamiJBT) would be that hideous stock. Swap out the commercial tube for a mil-spec one and get a CAR stock from M&A Parts.

well that is a little distressing to hear that a nuclear plant was being guarded with Bushmaster rifles. I would not pay $300 for one when I would just throw the barrel and the bolt carrier group and the upper hand the receiver extension in the garbage where they belong.

I'm a LMT super-shill and gun snob, but I can't say too much bad about the older Bushmasters. They work. Ironically it's the replacement parts that end up being the problems.

As far as nuclear plant guns... BE CAREFUL. One, they're radioactive.

TWO - probably half of them will have a LOT of rounds through them. The guns ready for use will have low round counts, so look for the roughest on the outside ones. Different rifles are used for training and get a LOT of rounds and a LOT of cleaning. Not always the nicest of cleaning, as in brass brushes used on carbon often.
