Just wandering what's your goto LPK and why you like it so?
I picked up my first stripped lower today. |
Del-Ton, DPMS, RRA... just make sure you get a brand name kit and you will be fine.
I use Stag exclusively. But they generally aren't the cheapest.
6 PSA kits and not a single problem.
1 RRA and bolt catch too tight in 2 separate receivers and roll pins oversized as well...and their mil-spec trigger was gritty, creepy, and heavy. Never again. |
Anderson complete LPK with FCG, $40, at AimSurplus, Link
It always sold out, for a reason. Subscribe for availability. You can polish the FCG, or get the ALG QMS if you want to pony up the extra cash, about $50. I highly recommend the ALG ACT or QMS. |
I generally hvae not had a problem with any of them except that I find most have safety detentes made of pot metal.

Stag. Best std trigger also. I think they are $55 from stag right now.
CMMG and Anderson without FCG have yielded equally good results for me. I'm just stuck on using better aftermarket triggers.

I have been using a Damage Industries LPKs with their Nickel Teflon upgrade kit and ALG ACT triggers. The LPK comes sealed in grease, and once cleaned and assembled they work great. My first build I used a full Armalite LPK and have been happy with that one too.

Colt LPK minus trigger/hammer from (-deleted, sorry-) for $60, and you can add your choice of ALG or Geissele triggers.
I went with DPMS and would be completely happy except their trigger group malfunctioned, so I tried to fix it, worked better but still malfunctioned, this started after about 60 rounds, so I replaced it with a ALG QMS trigger group and have been happy for a mil spec like trigger. The rest of the DPMS LPK was fine but seriously wtf.
The malfunction was a second firing when I would let the trigger go forward after firing. So it went like pull, break, bang go to reset bang. I will never again buy a LPK from DPMS, that is just completely unacceptable. |

Do tell, why is my opinion on something minor like a LPK such an issue? Is there some sort of Colt hate here?
I like the Palmetto State Armory basic premium Lower Build Kits. They come with the receiver extensions, FCG, grip, and stock. Even though I replace the grip, stock, FCG, and buffer, it provides me with many spare parts. Another angle to look at is if you want to make up the scratch you can flip the parts you dont need in the EE and make out pretty well.

View Quote I've bought a couple of DPMS LPK's minus the FCG (geez, that's a lot of acronyms for one sentence ) from Brownell's when they had them on sale and so far they have worked flawlessly. I've used LPK's from quite a few different companies. One of my favorites is Spikes, although they're not the cheapest by far. I have never used one from Stag, but with all the good reviews I've read about them, I might try one of theirs next....if there IS a next . |

I have been using Spike's kits without FCG for my last 6 builds. I have had issues with the bolt catch being out of spec on some other brands.
In addition the roll pins Spike's uses go in like butter. Some of the others I have used have roll pins that are a bit more work to install. Whatever you do don't buy the PSA PTAC kit. It is junk. The bolt catch is so thin it wobbles in the slot and won't lock the bolt open reliably. Also the roll pins are out of spec and a real pain to install. I was tempted to buy a couple of these. for my latest builds but I ended up with Spike's again. I figured for a $20 per gun savings it was not really worth changing from what I know is good to what I hope is good. |

I will and have bought pretty much any decently made lpk from a reputable maker. I will not ever again buy anything from PTAC. They have some of the worst parts,as far as fit and the hammer/trigger springs are thinner/weaker than any other manufacturer out there.

Red Barn Armory has a neat build your own LPK thing, the base parts are OK in the two I've had.
Otherwise it's Spikes, had a bunch and never a prob. |

PSA premium, they are nice. You can also get PSA LPK with am ALG trigger for like 65 bucks total, that is very cheap for a good kit. Also can choose what kind of grip, trigger guard, etc that you want. These are hard to beat. Their LBK are good too. As mentioned above. I have a psa kit with psa fcg and a kit with alg qms fcg and they're basically the same.

Did some back reading on archived threads. I had no idea about that vendors history, sorry.

I like to use Red Barn Armory since you can pretty much customize it with most anything you want.
