I've thought about machining a rail like that but use a T1 instead.

Wonder if an actual silencer was involved or if the arresting officer is just an ignoramus?

IF you look at the top pic in one of these articles you will see he was using a National match barrel nut tube for making a .mil spec hand guard free float. It is essentially a tube around the barrel. In todays climate of unknowledgeable authority it would be totally possible. I just wish I could find more pics of this rifle because it truly was outside the box thinking and  pure craftsmanship wayyyyy before printing was viable.

I know I'm a bit late to the party.. but I used to live there. You can find the details about the arrest here.

Cliff notes version.. I was told it was a homemade suppressor. He did a farmer a favor and got screwed. It's a 22 for God's sake. I will say he had a great attorney, know him well-- and his father was, at at the time, a Supreme Court judge so yeah.. I'll have to find out if he ever ended up serving time.

Hey guys, this is my straight-pull bolt action AR15. Being in Australia, a semi-auto long-arm is out of the question so a local company is making these which is the Warwick Firearms WFA1. They aren't cheap, but they're a lot of fun. It's spring-assisted too so the bolt only needs to be pulled back to eject the spent shell, then let it slam forward to pickup a new round from the mag and into battery.

Currently it looks a little different than this photo, with a Nikon M-223 2-8x optic, pic-rail bipod adapter, and a Magpul CTR stock. I'll get some more photos tonight/tomorrow.

Here you go. I am aware in these photos the front MBUS was on the wrong way around lol.

Inside the lower:

Bolt guide rod, spring and bolt carrier:
Bolt guide rod and spring:

Right side:

Front:

Left side:

They offer the rifle in 223 Wylde and 300 Blackout chambers, with 14", 16" and 20" barrels (300 Blackout only available in 14 and 16"). Short length and long length monolithic receivers with a choice of plain stainless, FDE, Desert Tan and OD Green cerakote on the receivers. Mine is the long receiver in FDE with the 16" 223 Wylde barrel. The barrels are interchangeable. I'll be happy to create a seperate thread on it and take some better photos if there's enough interest.

What holds the upper down in the back? and is the buffer tube just hollow? can you store stuff in it?

The tab on the end of the bolt guide rod holds the upper down, with a captive pin in the lower in front of the magazine well. The buffer tube I'm currently running is a PWS mil-spec tube with the Magpul CTR stock, I don't remember if that tube is hollow or not. The rifle came with a generic mil-spec tube and Magpul fixed stock, but that went onto my Hera Triarii Glock carbine chassis.

What would be an SBR over in the US, is still classified as a "concealable firearm" in my state in AUS due to the overall length being <750mm. I have a Lone Wolf 9" barrel for it too... quite fun to shoot metallic silhouette ducks at 100m with it :P

Wait so you can have a semi-auto 'SBR' but not a semi-auto rifle? Am I understanding that correctly?

Yep. Can't have a semi-auto long arm but you can have a semi-auto pistol. And there are no laws to say that we can't put pistols into chassis/stocks e.g. putting a Ruger Charger into a 10/22 stock and then changing the barrel for a 16" PWS barrel. So long as it remains <750mm OAL, it's classed as a "pistol".

I kinda want a handguard with LEDs that "charge and discharge" when the rifle is shot. Use tracer ammo for laser effect.

It's a 14.5" Red X Arms 1/8 SS 5.56 barrel with carbine gas, YHM flip-up front sight gas block, with a rifle length MOE handguard cut away for the flipup sight and X300U. There's a length of aluminum pic rail bolted into a flat milled into the top of the barrel between the FSB and handguard cap. I duracoated all the plastic a custom mix I call "TIE Fighter Grey."

BUIS flipped up.

Just a grip with a funky bump. The FA/brass deflector are one.

It's a ZM Weapons LR-300. Many moons ago they were in all manner of publications...then poof...gone.

I've never seen one in person. It's the first folding stock AR based rifle I can remember seeing.

Handguards removed.

The mount on the X300 is plastic, right?

Surefire website says aluminum body with integral "T" mount.

That's this version.

He used this one, with the plastic spring latch and plastic rails.
It would probably be fine...

Just a grip with a funky bump. The FA/brass deflector are one.

It's a ZM Weapons LR-300. Many moons ago they were in all manner of publications...then poof...gone.

I've never seen one in person. It's the first folding stock AR based rifle I can remember seeing.

Rick_A, in the first pic, is that a grip safety and FA/brass bump I see?

Tom Cruise used one in Knight and Day.
I loosely based my forward charging bufferless uppers on them, just beefed them up a little.
Even emailed back and forth with Allan Zitta a time or two.
