There seems to be a pic thread for everything but 20" rifles. Yes there are a few specialty pic threads that include them but this thread is for all varieties.

Please include at least the basic specs or all the specs if you want.

The 20" AR is making a comeback.

Armalite M-15 National Match

Full Floated with N.M tube

Armalite N.M 2 stage trigger

Armalite triple lapped 1 in 8 stainless barrel

Smith Vortex stainless flash suppressor

ACOG in LaRue mount

or Weaver 4-16 scope in ADM mount

or carry handle

A2 stock recently shortened to A1 length

Gunfighter Charging Handle

MIAD grip

M14 sling

Thinking about changing to a newer type free float rail.

Changed my mind, keeping the free float tube and A2 handguard.

My FIRST AR build:

Colt M16A1 parts kit & replacement barrel (1in7 twist, Chrome lined), from McKay Enterprises. I traded the A1 upper for an A2 upper, because I like the windage and elevation adjustments on the A2. Built on a "RGUNS” POW-MIA marked lower, with the FA lower parts exchanged for Semi ones. I’m real happy with it.

Here is the 1st AR that I built.  I built it as a A1 in 1987, but converted it to A2.  I don't remember what all the parts that I used in the build, but what I do remember is :

PWA lower  (low 4 digit serial #)
20" HBAR barrel
Pistol grip from Lone Star Ordnance (remember them!)

This is my only 20 inch out of my current total of 6 AR.

It have all Colt parts, I built it way back in 2005 the lower receiver started out as a stripped like new Colt Match Target HBAR I stumbled on my local gun store, it only had the bolt catch, pivot pin and the trigger guard still attached.

I got a complete Colt LPK and bought a take off new Colt M16A2 buttstock group from a machine gun dealer.

The upper half is a 1980s built brand new never issued Colt USGI M16A2 without BCG and no CH they were a good buy and plentiful back in early 2005 which I got around $400, then I bought a take off from a Colt carbine M16 auto BCG at the Equipment Exchange, the factory charging handle was from my Colt 6721 A3 Tactical Carbine (which I upgraded with a tactical latch LMT CH).

When I fist built it I used a Duck Bill grip but later used my factory A2 grip from my other Colt carbine, the sling shown was an IDF Israeli two point sling but currently it have the correct USGI black cotton adjustable sling with the metal clip rear attachment.

I'm going to either build or buy an A4 upper half after I finish my 18" SPR upper half current project.

20" light weight barrel, AP Custom carbon fiber handguard, carbine stock, and DMZ Freedom Reaper scope mount. Nice, simple and light set up. Easy to carry and shoots well.

I like the set up a lot. If I was doing another similar, I would try the ALG aluminum handgaurd, which is also light (not as much as carbon fiber). The scope is a budget Simmons 2-7x , which, while inexpensive, is a decent optic for the low price. It's clear with good eye relief and field of view.

From 2005 below, as you can see, I've been a fan of a 20" rifle with collapsing stock for some time (not that I had a choice about the 20" !  I was issued the rifle and added my stock)

I don't have decent hosting, but I built my son's AR with 20 inch Black Hole Weaponry barrel and 15 inch Apex handguard.

The upper, lower, and handguard were Cerakoted tungsten by Arfcommer Dan_Grey.

How does one make a 656 clone? Are the uppers available?

The uppers aren't available I'm afraid. Braceman on this forum did almost all the custom work on mine for the stripped upper and fsb. If you need any more info drop me a pm .

Here is my 20-inch, 5.56 rifle.  It was my first build, a learning experience, however by carefully selecting components and endless upgrading, it turned into the most accurate rifle I own and utterly reliable to boot.  My design concept was a modern infantry rifle using the AR-15 platform, but without any deference to the retro look.  If Teddy Roosevelt were with us today and the US Army asked him to organize a regiment of Rough Riders, this is the rifle I would recommend he arm his troopers with.  Current weight with iron sights and no magazine is 7.5 lbs.

The receivers are forged Aero Precision.  The barrel is Green Mountain, government profile, 1in8 twist, chrome lined.  I started with MOE handguards, but later upgraded through a series of FF handguards, ending up with MI's SS gen 2.  Likewise, the trigger has evolved from polished GI components (an excellent option IMO), to several Geisseles and finally to Hiperfire's 24C (the ne plus ultra of AR triggers). - CW

This was the first iteration of furniture (I love the look and feel of MOE handguards)

Here is the current configuration, along with some modern web gear
