Looks like a MK8 CQBSS but I am no Leupold expert.
Question for you fine folks to get my MREC started. Do I chop down a M4 SOCOM barrel to keep it economic or go with a BCM SS410? Whichever the flavor it will be 12.5". |

What say you on optics?
2.5-10? 2.5-10 w/ offset RDS? 1-x? I really want to give the VCOG a try as it seems perfect for the mini recce. I'll let Ryan talk me into it some more... |

View Quote the answer is always based on how you're going to use it. the 1-8 is the sweet spot for me, actually 6x is the highest I commonly use. I Hunt hogs and deer, from a blind, stalking and from vehicles with it and it works well. I like to train in close to mid range(2 to 150 yards), never from a bench or controlled firing line. a 2.5-10 would be more ideal for precision, longer range shooting. |

I got a 1-4 but I have had 1-6 dont think there will be too much of a difference for me <300yds

I just picked up a T2 for that mini RECCE you speak of. I'll be swapping between the VCOG and T2 on it.
The T2 is gonna end up costing me a ton. I now want to replace all 5 of my T1s with T2s... |

View Quote You did what? I thought you swore of the T2? I might need a T1 when you sell, I have to put one of my Comps on my MK18 Mod build |
|
|
I don't recall swearing off the T2. However, I did initially never expect to want to replace any of my T1s with T2s, as the differences between the two on paper seemed to be very negligible.
Well, I happened to be in the market for another Aimpoint Micro last week, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to just drop the extra couple bucks for the T2. Let me first point out that I still wouldn't say the difference between the T1 and T2 will be worth while to everyone at the additional cost. The differences between the two are still somewhat subtle, but depending on your personal equipment, they can add up and make the T2 worth it. The glass on the T2 is superior. Much better? No. But it's noticeable. I wouldn't make the switch solely due to the glass difference, but the T2 is clearer and crisper. What more sets the T2 aside for me is how much better it performs in front of a 3x magnifier or PVS-14. For those that utilize 3x mags or NVGs behind their Micros, the T2 is definitely a good step up in those departments. Lastly, I dig the new lens covers. I run the TD iO covers on my current T1s, but I have all the caps cut off because they can get in my line of sight at times as a righty. The new T2 lens covers are transparent, which is another big plus over the iO covers, and they can also be positioned in any position you desire. I have them positioned to rest on my handguard/upper receiver, so they don't interfere with my FOV at all. Mind you, I've just had a chance to briefly play around with this new T2 at home thus far - it just arrived late this afternoon. I highly doubt I'll end up parting with all my current T1s for T2s, but I'm likely to make the swap on at least one in the very near future. |

I have a complete upper that Tom built me. It is an excellent barrel, and one of my absolute favorite rifles. I have only stretched this one to 100, it formerly wore just a XPS, I sighted the Accupoint on bags and me and to of my friends shot 1-2 inches with it all day. They both want 11.5 inch scoped rifles, now. It is not the sweetie my Noveske is, but it is just so damn light! |

Thanks guys! Hitting the range in the morning to see how it shoots.
Surprisingly I think the brown camo job will do better year round - even though middle TN is a "green" area 1/2 the year. Hell deer are brown and disappear in the woods. Yes as pointed out it is a ballistic advantage 14.5, my first foray into a melonited barrel - so this could dictate future barrel purposes if it shoots. As to the 11.5 it's going to revert back to a rds equipped fun / range gun. Pretty much as it was but with a primary arms micro dot. I do not like the new yhm qd mounts as I have no need to stab a dragon, so it will wear an A1 FH until I can find an old model mount or the elusive PWS mount. It will have the neat look I've seen in the MK18 thread where the upper / optic is black, but the lower / rail are painted. If "meh" once assembled I'll paint the upper / optic too. And I said I was done messing with my AR's...... |
