I remember reading this thread when it was fairly short and it seemed like such a neat concept. Now I'm back years later with my own I built last year. Only a 14.5 but eventually Ill be making a 12.5/11.5 little brother.

I have a SE 1-8 on mine and it is better than the PA 1-6 ACSS I had but not as good as some of my larger scopes but that is to be almost wxspected due to the size.  It picks up more than I exspected it to but not as much as the razor line. I have a light on my rifle as well so can toss a beam out if needed.

+1 Looks like the planning paid off. How do you like the BCM QRP? I thought it was a KAC at first glance.

Thanks. I used a BCM KEYMOD before and really like it. This is a great quad rail. It feels very solid. I was gonna go with a KAC but didn’t like the price.

I replaced the KAC panels with some lighter rubber panels that pop on and off without having to remove items from the rails. They are lighter and a little more low profile and more user friendly.

My blackout begets a 50-yard zero cause 85% or more of what I use it for is subs with a can.  I *AM* starting to work a supersonic load up over the winter for it, so I'll probably get some generic cheap (S&B?) FMJ stuff and get it relatively close at 50, then swap to 100 to sight in.

5.56 rigs 100 for generic, specific BDC calibrated stuff gets done at whatever the OEM recommends, and then verified.

So I’m going to start my mini recce and i’ve Decided to also make it a Noveske fan boy gun. 12.5 crusader barrel gen3 billet receivers, Noveske mlok rail. 1-8 accupower. But I can’t decide on doing a surefire warcomp or surefire socom muzzle brake. It’s a for a fun gun, my go to guns have warcomp’s on them. My competition rifle and my 14.5 mini recce have socom brakes so I can’t decide. Also torn on the trigger either geissele ssa-e that I have two of or a geissele ssp. My buddy has one and I like it.

Post some groups when you get a chance I want to see how accurate that crusader barrel is
Zeroed today.

As for groups let me preface this by saying the last time i did any precision shooting was last fall so to say I am rusty is an understatement. I am using the 4.5x Leupold which is not ideal for me at 100m when shooting groups to measure a barrels accuracy. The temp dropped to freezing today and I was running out of daylight. I was using the bipod on the ground so not exactly bench results.

I was also using PPU 75 gr HP BT and Winchester 55 gr FMJ. The PPU is good but not exactly the best ammo out there.

Enough with excuses, let’s get to the nitty gritty!

I shot 3 round groups at 25 m to get on paper. I was impressed with a few of my groups here because they were almost all touching.

I moved to 100 and dialed it in from there with 3 shot groups. I then shot a 10 shot group with PPU unsuppressed and a 5 shot suppressed. I then did the same with the Winchester 55 gr.

Groups

10 shot PPU = 1.9”
5 shot PPU and CAN = 2.5” ( about 1” low and 1” left)

10 shot Winchester = 3”
5 shot Winchester and CAN = 3.3” (a little low and left)

I am really not disappointed considering my conditions/ammo/equipment. I was really impressed with the Winchester.

In the first 10 shot group of the PPU there was one small group of 4 that were almost touching, then the rest were sort of spread out around it. I think it’s due to the magnification and myself.

Overall I am happy. I have no doubt this barrel can die better.

I am off all week so I am going to due some groups later this week when the weather is better. I am also going to use a Leupold 3-9x. I will post results after round 2.

Sounds like there's some potential there, if you have the ability to pick up even a single box of FGMM 69's (or, if you handload, work up some various loads) I'd be willing to bet those would turn in some impressive results.  Or just splurge on Black Hills anything.

No worries. I’m happy to hear you’re enjoying it. I agree that it’s not the best optic for grouping. I’ve used the 75gr hornady black in my Noveske 18inch barrel and it likes that. My buddy has the same barrel as you but he keeps a red dot on it so that’s not ideal for testing accuracy. Can’t wait to read about round 2.

Braved the cold and got a little range time in over the weekend.

Normally, the upper will be wearing a Steiner P4Xi.  The HDMR was only on for accuracy testing but I kind of liked the way it looked.

Alright gents, Mini Recce build in progress and I need ur input for new midlength 13.5" upper config.  Going on an lmt or a psa sbr lower. 6.5" f1 can or sdn6. P4xi in a lt204 mount.

I want rigid, quality and lightweight is nice..

Basic Aero Upper $70,  Geissele MK14 mlok 13" rail $250........ $320

vs.

Larue Stealth 2.0 upper and HG set... About $370

Planning to use a 14.7" CHF ml QPQ nitride cut to 13.5" by adco.
https://midstatefirearms.com/147-Cold-Hammer-Forged-CHF-556-Nato-17-MidLength-Ar15-Barrel-147-chf-barrel.htm

And who knows I just might talk myself into a Larue UU kit, but not sure yet.. Would sell off the lower accessories.

Have you talked to Adco about this yet? Last I'd heard they didn't do work on nitride barrels as it killed tools really quickly.

Rainier Arms still sells a 13.7" Rock Creek barrel. I have one on my pinned 13.7 I've posted in here before and it's fantastic.

If Adco won't work the QPQ tube you could go with that.

If you use the Geissele 13" rail, definitely get a 13.7" barrel. The muzzle device lines up perfectly with the end of the rail.

Adco say's they'll cut nitrided barrels. Gas port .08 and they are only $85 shipped. at the link above... So close to $200 after adco and shipping.  But maybe should spend the $100 extra for a barrel with a real reputation.. Cant find much on the midstate barrels..but their cheap!

that's a recipe for overgassed if ever I saw one.  14.5 carbine barrels tend to be in the .062" range for gas port diameter; 10.3 at .070" runs fantastic.  Suppressed with .080" on a 13.x is going to need tuning of some sort with buffer/spring or adjustable gas block.

It shouldn't be too bad if it's .080" on a midlength barrel.  I believe that is what he is looking at doing.

And who knows I just might talk myself into a Larue UU kit, but not sure yet.. Would sell off the lower accessories.

I got my noveske sba3 brace and I ordered a black nitride Noveske BCG.  The Black Friday code doesn’t work on marked down things but I got a code from them at the Noveske carbine. championship so I got the start of my Noveske mini recce

for you 11.5" users who use your mini recce more for close up with the occasional longer range shots, would you go with the nightforce 1-8 options or vortex razor 1-6?
