Ordered another BCM assembled upper receiver and it has some weird stake/punch mark? Not sure what it is for, or if just a tool mistake.

Looks like stake mark to me, but ive never seen anyone do that there. Ive never even heard of the roll pin there backing out.
Could be a botched job. i.e. the punch slipped when they were trying to get the roll pin in. |

Yeah, I mean at first glance it looks like a stake, but no material is pushed into where the pin would go, so that's kind of out.
Also, I have never heard of these coming out so makes me think it's a tool mark from slipping. Plus, its a roll pin, which needs no staking. |

Weird, my brand new BCM upper doesnt have this. My guess is they missed trying to drive in the roll pin for FA

The shape of the dimple makes it look like it was made with a roll pin punch - like the guy assembling the FA missed once with his punch. It is NO BIG DEAL, but cosmetically it's "there," right? Let BCM know about it.

That's what I figured. I'm not concerned by any means, I just didn't know what it was for, or if it was something new they were doing.

Yup. That is a mark from the nipple on a roll pin punch, and given the size, looks like it was from a roll pin punch the size of the one used to drive the FA pin...someone missed on the first strike. Won't affect anything, though I agree with above statement; Let BCM know.
