Well I got the itch. Just finished up all the add ons on my colt 6940.  My upgrades so far include tango down VFG, geiselle SSA-E trigger, KNS trigger/hammer pins, magpul miad grip, magpul enhanced trigger guard, eotech exps 2-0, eotech G33 magnifier. I am very satisfied with my setup, but after looking through parts randomly I have the itch to build one from scratch. My question is.... What type of 2nd rifle would you build? I love the carbines, but its senseless to have two of the same gun type. I was thinking maybe 20" barrel withe a bipod and regular scope, but the more I think about it the more I lean toward another carbine.  I really like the Mega arms GTR-3H lower. Thoughts on a possible next build?

I am one of the senseless, but I say go for a nice 14.5 or SBR

I wish I could go with a SBR but unfortunately thats not going to happen if Im living in this state lol. A 14.5 I could do with a welded and pinned muzzle device. Right now I think it's a toss ip between a mid or rifle length.

Do an A4 clone.

You'll thank me later.

I've got a 20" Colt A2 clone and it seems too long, maybe get an 18" SPR barrel, upper half, it's up to you if you want it heavy or fluted light weight.

You could use this upper as your precision AR on your existing lower half, then later on get a dedicated lower of your preference for the SPR upper.

If you can't make a SBR, think about a 20" A1 clone.

A SPR'ish build complements my carbine nicely as would a 20" build.
A perfect duo for me would be a SBR and SPR, here in WA I might be able to do a SBR soon.

This.

I'm enjoying my BCM 14.5 a lot.

Someone on the A2 build thread did an A2 clone but with an 18" barrel. Looked pretty nice. Or maybe a Recce clone. For military style rifles it's pretty affordable, the 16" barrel is authentic, etc.

Then after your first build have your wife/significant other hide the credit cards...

Geissele trigger and KNS pins?  Isn't there some sort of issue that can arise with that combination.

Not that I have run into. I had the Kns pins in the stock trigger setup. When I put the Geiselle in I used them. Works flawlessly.

Not sure the repercussions of it but Geissele directly recommends not using the KNS pins.

For a second AR I would build an SPR or MK12ish clone.

Geissele:

"We have had past issues with KNS pins not being hard enough and too under spec in diameter. The result was burrs being produced that ruined the trigger. This is why it may work fine for some, no doubt, yet COULD lead to a failure for others. This is why we do not recommend using their pins."

Mine too. I'm currently in a similar situation to OP. I'm almost done adding to my Colt 6940 and thinking I will build something next. And I think I'm going the AR10 route for a long barreled rifle with bipod and sniper scope.

Geissele is working with KNS for a pin that Geissele approves with his triggers. They are not available yet.
