While I am not intimately familiar with either product, providing you do not want to mount a suppressor that is not supported by it, I would go with the flash comp. It looks from the pictures that it is simply the same comp with the addition of some short flash suppressing prongs.
I certainly can't attest to the effectiveness of it's flash suppression abilities, but between the two, I'd take the one with some flash suppression possibilities.

no suppressor, not allowed in the peoples republic of Illinois. Did some research and it seems like the key differences are that the flash compensator is a little louder and of course longer/bulkier.

If I was pinning/welding I'd use the flash comp. If not then just use the comp. Why add the extra length to a 16 or longer barrel when the flash reduction will be very minimal?

Fwiw, I've been using the flash comp on a 16" middy AR for the past 4 months or so. It rocks. No louder then the A2. Thought of as having about the same flash signature as the A2 as well(meaning it also gets over whelmed when used on the shortest barrels). Instant noticeable muzzle control improvement. The price is relatively great too.

I've been running the flash comp as we'll and really like it. Mitigates muzzle rise well

Sig 716 3 gun, Caldwell Tack Shooter bag Amazon $24 comp about 1.5" groups @ 100. Remove pos amazon comp install flash comp taking incredible care to time it correctly and 5-.6" 3 shot groups and  1-1.1". Just a fast test last weekend same gun, rest, temp, wind, SSA 168gr OTM. YMMV

I installed the flash comp a few weeks ago. Have shot the gun twice since install. Very noticeable reduction in muzzle rise, particularly up close when practicing double and triple taps. Hard to go wrong. Mine is installed on a 16" middy.

Be aware that POI will likely shift a bit. Mine was about an inch down and a half inch left at 50, easy adjustment though.

I have a 16" middy as well. Seems long which is why I'm debating between the two.

Most of my uppers have Griffin MDs.

I will tell you the Flash Comp is  a tad better of the two, more so if you are pinning/welding.

It is still a wicked compensator, with a bit of a flash diminishing effect, but not much.

Which one would you recommend for a rifle that is not for shtf or home defense. Most of my shooting is recreational and in indoor and outdoor ranges. Any difference in concussion and recoil between the two?

If there isn't a flash hider restriction in your state, there's no reason not to get the Flashcomp. Super flat shooting. Best comp I tried.

I guess added length on a 16" was my main issue of the flash comp vs tactical comp. other benefit of the tac comp is that it is 2 db quieter..

Flash comp if you plan to pin and weld on a 14.5 obviously.

I like both...used both.  Prefer the comp and I think it looks badass
