Can you not multi-quote in this website? That's frustrating.

Anyways Stealth is a member already, but karma will roll around. We'll get you back.

Jeff - You're in Central Florida, we need to get something in Florida together. I'm in SWFL.

I shoot my CQBR without a can on a lot actually, with a brake. It's actually a lot of fun on FA because the brake is crazy consistent at muzzle rise down and on target. Muzzle blast/concussion is pretty nuts, but it's an MG...come on.

I shot it on FA indoors when no one was around and it was us and the ROs just playing. It reminded me of one of those movie scenes where an atomic bomb goes off and you see the explosion in the reflection of someone's glasses. I was practically blinded by muzzle flash.

Realistically I don't care too much about the suppressor life. I will probably just buy another SF soon anyways if the prices of the RC goes down with the new Gen2s out.

Nice. I have a new upper coming that needs paint. I might paint the RIS II.

I am relisting my CompM2 and Wilcox mount. I may end up keeping it though.

I vote for painting the whole thing, krylon sand and brown (fusion series) comes out nicely.

New Insight goodies...

Would have preferred the fixed mount WMX200, but beggars can't be choosers (though if anyone wants to trade... ) - I'm just stoked to finally gotten a hold of one "for keeps!"  Only problem is deciding which rifle to mount it on - I need more, more, more!!!!  The WMX200 is definitely best appreciated with the ATPIAL.  The only thing it needs now is a focusable beam and HI/LO settings.  The TNV/Unity programmable switch looks interesting, too.

The early KAC BUIS came off when I was playing around with mounting a monocular on a USGI weapons mount, and I don't think it's going back on.

Actually, I had already been thinking of moving it my MRE-A upper to make it a KAC bonanza anyways, so that will probably happen now.

Why the fixed mount over the rotation one?

Simply put, I'll never use the rotational function.

Slightly lower profile, generally simpler - it's a nitpick, to say the least.

I've never been all hot and bothered to begin with about offset light mounts, and even if I was going to offset, it would probably be to the 10-11 o'clock, which there doesn't seem to be a great way of doing with this mount, but I haven't played with the rotating mount really yet, and the last one I used was a fixed mount - who knows, maybe it'll grow on me.

What do you mean "lower mount height" (for the WMX200 fixed model)? The rotating model couldn't be any tighter to the rail if it tried.

I thought that was one of the design features. It's been a while since I compared the two but I could have sworn the fixed and rotating mount models had the same mount height

Mount height is the same.  I was talking about the "meat" in the hinge area:

(photo borrowed from ihcnehc from many many pages ago )

The rail-grabber bracket is a little shorter and smaller on the fixed model than the rotating model.

There is no practical difference at all that I am aware of assuming you never ever use the rotational function of the mount - I am just anal retentive, and the hinge is just a reminder of a feature with added complexity that I don't need, and I am generally incapable as a statement of principle, of being 100% happy.  It was a throw-away comment that was never meant to get this much table-time.

There are really two reasons.

1. It's the current contract light that's part of the SOPMOD (Block II) program. So, if you're building a "clone" of a modern U.S. military rifle, it's the correct light.

2. Because of its compatibility and features when combined with an ATPIAL. You can't review the WMX-200 on its own as just an individual light, because that's not its intended use. You have to review it as part of the "system", which is when it's paired with an ATPIAL. The WMX has two different lights, 1) a standard white light with a focused beam and 2) a low-power flood IR illuminator. These are two wholly separate LEDs and not just some "IR filter" applied to the white light LED. Both of these perfectly compliment the ATPIAL. The ATPIAL already has an IR illuminator, but it's extremely powerful and even at its widest setting is relatively focused. So the WMX's flood IR is incredible for indoors or CQB work. You can flip it on and simply guarantee that wherever you go the room will be completely splashed. If you combine that with a helmet mounted flood illuminator, you have the most perfect combination of IR flood to navigate around. It's a bit hard to explain, but in actual use, it's unreal.

The white light is also incredibly useful, in terms of the user interface. Soft momentary push for a very low white light, hard momentary push for high beam white light. Double tap for continuous high beam. Double tap momentary push for high beam strobe. The pressure switch plugs in to the rear of the clicks switch, meaning the clicky switch is still completely useable even with the pressure switch plugged in (and negates the need of a plug and separate button). The user interface is simply the best I've ever used on a weapon light.

Since both the WMX and PEQ are Insight creations, they use the same plug interface and accessories are interchangeable. Additionally you can get the Insight dual pressure switch that can control both from one minimal switch interface.

When shooting at night, it's a wonderful combination to leave the IR laser on full time, and then have the WMX's flood IR quickly available for when moving in to dark rooms or areas. Then you can switch the high power ATPIAL's illuminator on for when you're outside and need to illuminate farther targets.

And then finally, the WMX is small, lightweight, low profile, and has combat proven reliability.

No knock on Surefire, but as part of the "system", combined with the ATPIAL, I know of no other light that matches the capability, features, and interface. If you do any shooting at night, and have access to an ATPIAL, it's easily worth the price of admission. If you don't shoot at night, then I guess it's just to be "clone correct"?

Disclaimer: this is only based on my experience with full power ATPIALs. I have no experience with the civi PEQs and their illuminators.

Augee, I know Surefire got a VBL-III contract for the 620V and 720V yet they do not seem to be as prevelant as the Insight lights?

Just snagged this vid from LAV's FB page:

Speaks a bit about the new SOCOM 2s. Basically just says they're "much stronger" than their predecessors.
