That’s really nice and the new RIS III looks like a slick rail.  But to me that’s not a clone of anything.

The rail the URG-I SHOULD have. DD was just hella late or something.

But cloners will trip over something small as a hotdog safety instead of the non hotdog FA ambi safety... So something as big as the rail (Most iconic part of the cqbr mod 1 at that) will make heads explode and be non grata.

"Hurrr durrrr nice SBR, post that in the 10.3/10.5 SBR thread"

I like it

Thanks scott!

When I woke up this morning it was a lot more kosher,

Then the mail came and I switched it over to the RIII,

I’ll still be calling it my MK18, I went out of my way to make this an updated version of the block II. (Minus the Eotech) TD Mlok grip, Mlok CQD, 99051, Peq, and the ready of everything else is colt (M4A1 lower, not property marked).  It’s just a tad updated.  And I may not think it’s as aesthetically pleasing as the RIS II, but it definitely feels a whole world better.

My Mk18 RIII block II.

Want.
Now, the questions.
Where did you buy your RIII (saw one on Gunbroker) and how hard/easy of a swap is it?
I wants it.

Rainier arms has them in stock.

It was stupid simple to switch over.   I used the hardware from the other rail that was already on.  I didn’t have to mess with the barrel nut or anything.   The most difficult part was switching the FSB to a lopro gas block, and even that I used a jig kit from Classified Defense, so even that was a cake walk.

Legit everything took about 30 minutes

run one of them on a 10.3?

I'm an action movie fan - big time.
Is there any movie - or even documentary for that matter - that shows action with them Mk18s? Seen some presence with the Mod0s but have never seen anything with Mod1s in them.

Like absolutely zero, nothing. 416Ds plenty - but Mk18 Mod1s absolutely never, nada.

Anyone has some reference, titles or links?

Action. I wants to see some action with 'em!

Thanks brother,
It's the color and nothing else.
I used to be a professional photographer, and although these are taken mostly with my iPhone nowadays, I always run them through a couple of filters, and I make sure that the framing is decent in a way that I like it.

Our beloved guns are absolutely a wonderful subject to take pictures of!

What’s a reasonable price for a DD 10.3 barrel with less than 1000 rds taken off a factory DD MK18?

Buddy has one he wants to get rid of and takes care of his shit and I told him I’d help him by asking the SMEs what they think it would be worth?  I’d assume the gas block is included of course.

Not a sale post.

I’m sorry I very stupidly missed writing barrel in that post.  That’s good to know though that at least helps to break it down a bit.

Speaking of DD uppers. Given the amount of DD uppers seen ITW. Which of my stripped upper receiver options would be closest to correct.

Straight DD upper

Colt non C marked cerro forged

Colt cage code

Paired with a govt marked lower

I know the concept is not cloning what’s seen ITW. Just saying it seems like none of these uppers are completely correct.

So Navy 18-1 Marked lowers have their own NSN number from what I can tell: 1005-01-626-0322

My question is, if CRANE is remarking Colt M4A1 rifles with the 18-1 designation... would they apply new UID labels indicating CRANE as the Cage Code with the 18-1 part number (408JXN00593) and the original Colt serial?

Or would they leave the existing Colt UID on the lower.

As I mentioned in PM, they may or may not.  Yes, M4A1 is lined out and NAVY 18-1 is engraved into lower.  This is a property book tracking tool where the different NSN shows up in the inventory/commanders hand receipt.  They look for complete guns.  Army does it differently as only M4A1 carbine is tracked, no matter how many uppers as they are not the serial numbered item.   UIDs all depend on the unit IF they have the scanner to read the UID.  If not, then no UID.

Thanks CD! Yes the more I look into it the more confused I get. In the photos you’ve provided you can make out what appears to be Colt M4A1 numbers on the UID so that’s likely what I’ll go with.
