Fantastic! Zero issues with it during break in over the weekend. Flash hider has a tuning fork sound similar to a vortex, can't wait to see how it does at night.

Rough mock up. Still missing a few parts like gas tube and gas block, castle nut.

Sent the bbl in to adco today to get skinnier.

Still thinking on optic.  Back and forth.

My very long term project is nearing it's end. LW SBR...

Without mag: 3.47 lbs
With mag: 3.63 lbs

Not bad. Had a hell of a time with this build, even if it did take FOREVER. With a CF stock, a Ti carrier, and a different lower it could have been 3 lbs or even less, but I had my reasons for compromising weight at times. I basically chose to keep everything 'out front' as light as I could possibly get it. Haven't shot it yet, but it's going to take some getting used to with respect to transition speed. It's craazy light in front.    Now....time to select and RDS and mount. I was going to go with a Shield, but I'm having second thoughts. Might just run a vortex or FF3. We'll see. Whatever it is, it'll be light.

Great looking build! I like the color combo.
What trigger gaurd is that? Looks like a solid pin on the front.

Is that the lowest weight on this thread so far?

[Last Edit: jekbrown] [#8]
That is a damage industries "thin" enhanced TG that I had a 1/4" slot milled into. The final weight was slightly  lower than a standard milspec trigger guard, which may be decades old but is still one of the lightest on the market.

I think Stoner would appreciate my AR. He loved the idea of using new materials in the platform and I've replaced almost all of the steel parts that can be replaced (there's still springs, the bbl, pins (some of them!), the bolt catch, and the BCG) with lighter materials. CF and Titanium and cool Al alloys would make him happy.

At some point I'm going to make a non-NFA ultralight using a poly lower and CF stock/extension along with a faxon pencil 14.5/pinned FH...Stoner would prolly like that build plan too.

Put one on 6.5g build a couple months ago.
Just inserting pins and mags, the paint finish comes off, scratches easily.

The mold isn't perfect either. Showing some lines and imperfections.

But functions good so far.  And really light.

Not the best pic, but look near the bolt catch.  Will try to get a better pic.

Here's a couple more:

..

Magwell of the fostech lower. The coating or paint they used is scraping off after light use. (Was like this immediately after the first few insertions).

sick build larrys, especially considering how little carbon fiber / polymer you used. Can't get much lighter with current off the shelf stuff. Very nice!!!

Thanks jekbrown, I'm really happy with it. I think I could get it damn close to 3.5 and stay all metal but it would be a lot of work and money.
The V7 hyperlite 11.1 alone would have it at 3.68 lbs.
I'm leaving as is for now. Next build will be on the Fostech magnesium receivers to see what I can get down to.

Nice!

Please update when you have a chance to shoot it.

I am looking at that same barrel/FH, but one of the reviews said the flash hider acts as a tuning fork when shot. I am curious if it happens regularly or if it was just a single instance.

A lot of 3-4 prong flash hiders do this. The good news is, a rifle shot is about 100x louder than the "ping", which is really only annoying if you dry fire a lot.
