Great looking build! I like the color combo.
What trigger gaurd is that? Looks like a solid pin on the front. Is that the lowest weight on this thread so far? |
|
|
That is a damage industries "thin" enhanced TG that I had a 1/4" slot milled into. The final weight was slightly lower than a standard milspec trigger guard, which may be decades old but is still one of the lightest on the market.

Had a hell of a time with this build, even if it did take FOREVER. With a CF stock, a Ti carrier, and a different lower it could have been 3 lbs or even less, but I had my reasons for compromising weight at times. I basically chose to keep everything 'out front' as light as I could possibly get it. Haven't shot it yet, but it's going to take some getting used to with respect to transition speed. It's craazy light in front. Now....time to select and RDS and mount. I was going to go with a Shield, but I'm having second thoughts. Might just run a vortex or FF3. We'll see. Whatever it is, it'll be light. View Quote |

Got an Odd/Unique AR15, post it here. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/683722_Official-Odd-AR15-Picture-and-Parts-Discussion-thread-.html |
I think Stoner would appreciate my AR. He loved the idea of using new materials in the platform and I've replaced almost all of the steel parts that can be replaced (there's still springs, the bbl, pins (some of them!), the bolt catch, and the BCG) with lighter materials. CF and Titanium and cool Al alloys would make him happy.
At some point I'm going to make a non-NFA ultralight using a poly lower and CF stock/extension along with a faxon pencil 14.5/pinned FH...Stoner would prolly like that build plan too. |

That's an awesome thread. Are there any off the shelf units you can buy in the 6lbs range?

sick build larrys, especially considering how little carbon fiber / polymer you used. Can't get much lighter with current off the shelf stuff. Very nice!!!

Thanks jekbrown, I'm really happy with it. I think I could get it damn close to 3.5 and stay all metal but it would be a lot of work and money.
The V7 hyperlite 11.1 alone would have it at 3.68 lbs. I'm leaving as is for now. Next build will be on the Fostech magnesium receivers to see what I can get down to. |
