I've seen several other light weight picture threads that included 8 pounders. Lets look at some real challenging builds. Rules are...gotta have a pic, gotta have the weight of the empty rifle. The rifle must weigh six pounds or less. I'll go first.
Attachment Attached File

Permanently attached phantom flash hider on a spikes 14 1/2" light weight mid length barrel
DPMS carbon fiber free float hand guard...cut to mid length from a rifle length tube
JP front sight rail
Lo-pro .625 gas block
Magpul MBUS sights
Standard aluminum upper with an adco forward assist plug
Standard bolt and buffer
New Frontier Lower
Magpul MOE grip
CAR butt stock
500 rounds so far...no malfunctions.

Empty weight: 5 pounds

Can't see your butt stock and also your bottom cap on your grip is out...lol.

A lot of people blow some of the weight category up to be more than it is...Won't hate though, to each their own.

Switching to an upper without provision for a forward assist would save about 1.5 ounces.

...and just in case you were thinking you needed polymer/carbon fiber to make the cut...

...a stock colt 6520...5 pounds 12 ounces.

The bottom cap weighed too much :-) ....thanks for the hold on the hate...just an intellectual exercise, mostly, but ounces = pounds. Pounds = pain.

For almost all, the pounds=pain argument is null due to the fact that there are so, so very little, situations where you haul the weight constantly...even still, for those applications, a sling would likely be used and aid in carrying the weight....but I'd be surprised to see someone post the weight and include the sling, an accessory that would be useful for this mentality of pounds=pain.

Just sayin'.  I do like lightweight builds though....I just get there with an SBR.

Now put the bolt carrier group back in and weigh it ....

My homeland defense carbine has got to have a flashlight and an Aimpoint micro on it so I guess I can't compete...
will have to see how much my 14.7 super light Bushy weighs when the BCM KM13's come out

Not bad for a 16" middy barrel and 13.5" handguard with standard bcg components and h buffer.

I can't wait to put something together with a lightweight 11.5 barrel, bcm hg, and upper without fa.  FU brd

I never had this on a scale, but it was incredibly light.

Cav Arms poly lower
Bushmaster "carbon" upper
16" pencil barrel
Carved down gas block
Carbon fiber rifle length handguard

I had a micro reflex type sight on it.

FWIW  I count the weight of the rifle and a full 30 rnd  magazine.

This is 6.5 pounds with a full mag.  Probably under six pounds without the magazine.

It's carbon fiber and tupperware with a CMMG Govt profile barrel.

Even my favorite airgun is 8.5lbs.

I have nothing else to contribute...carry on...

If you use a 604 upper on that you'd save a half pound.

That gun wasn't intentionally built as a LW.  It just turned out that way.
Excuse my ignorance, what's a 604 upper?  You mean a slickside.
My carbine has a slickside upper receiver.  It's nowhere near six pounds though.
I really don't care for the govt profile.  I should have put a medium contour barrel on it when I built it.
At some point I'm going to chuck that barrel and get something better.

The weight difference between A1 and A2 is 4 ounces. You could turn most of that off.

604 is a slick side A1 upper.

You can totally compete. The Aimpoint only weighs 4 ounces, a Surefire G2 Nitrolon weighs another 4 ounces.  The MBUS weigh about 2 oz I think, and you could remove them if need be. The Aimpoint is pretty reliable. Easy money

I think weight should be with no mag as this is a variable weight item. I run a 10, the next guy a 30... you get the idea. Also the rifle has to be complete and ready to fire for the weight  to mean something.  Gotta have a BCG, Charging Handle, Sights...

EDIT-  Sights or optic. Gotta use something to aim.

That was an early build photo, that had a Colt 16" lightweight barrel.  That was before I purchased several Colt 14.5" lightweight barrels off of the EE.

This was either 5 pound, 5 oz or 5 pounds 8 oz... i forget now.

5lb 4 ozs it weighs

It feels ridiculous to handle.

I will get a pic of it on the scale when I get the rifle back from my brother.

I used a 14.5 DD pencil barrel
MagTactical magnesium lower
9mm upper
Colt half moon carrier
Fiberlite stock
Troy 9' alpha and irons
std weight car buffer
BCM low pro block
Extended A2 hider

I don't have a postal scale, just a bathroom scale, so my weights aren't as precise. But the old car is 6# or just under and if the bumblebee M4gery 6# or just over. My 604 and 603 clones are closer the 6.5 so they're not included.

Titanium BCG, chopped Cav lower, Leupold DeltaPoint, 9mm upper, carbon fiber hand guard, adjustable gas tube, etc.  I've got an aluminum carrier and poly fire control group I could throw in there, but I'm saving them for a Mag Tactical build.

I thought I would win this one - but man... 3 lb, 14 oz --- I can't beat that - not with "store bought" parts at this time.
but - with all store bought parts, put together on my coffee table it's pretty good....It's a good shot too.  probably about 2 MOA - nothing great, but nothing bad either...

4.2 lb - WITH OPTIC

Ultralight AR15 - 2 pictures

2nd picture is with the AAC m4-2000 suppressor on it....that obviously pushes the weight up!

What length and profile barrel? I having hard time seeing how you could get that low without doing an SBR.

11.5", it's .570 behind and in front of the gas block, .625 gas block journal.

I have a magnesium lower, and a 9mm upper, and some other very lightweight components.  I even have a CavArms lower, but I don't think I'm going to use it.  Mine will be Title I.  I have a bunch of Title II stuff, but my lightweight will not be one.  The easy way to make the lightest rifle would be to have the shortest barrel... I superlight 7 incher sounds like it would be pretty light.  My criteria will be Title I, reliable (I'm going to shoot a few matches with it), with quality components.

Nice. I love the look of an upper without a FA. Unfortunately I don't have any rifles that will make the cut. My sport was like 6lbs 12oz, and my spikes pencil barrel middy is 7lbs even.

Yeah there should be some limits on these things
-like barrels must be 14.5 or 14.7
-no plastic lowers
-pics must be on scale with wt showing
-no helium balloons tied to upper when on the scale
-no optics
-BCG CH must be in upper

Stuff like that
