Looks like an older model, but legit. Grab the serial number and give Trijicon a call and see if they can verify.

Looks legit. Older model, so it is likely that the tritium will be useless or nearly so.

Mine is pretty old (04-05) and it has a serial number engraved into both the body and eye piece where they bolt together. That and the shininess of the paint kinda throws a curve ball though.

Some of the older ones we had were semi-shiny like that, but rhe SN should be right where you said. I can't think of a time that it hasn't been in my experience...

I noticed the weird shiny paint as well. Now I know this is very paranoid, but do you think he spray painted it right before to hide the serial?

You'd need a lot of spray bomb to cover those numbers, they're engraved pretty deep.

Hard to tell from the those pics. I thought some of the shine on the edges were wear.

In any case, once you revealed the detail about there not being a SN, it's more than likely a fake. Read this thread, and pass on it.

Do you have it so you can look through it? If so, at the bottom of the glass there should be an etching telling you what round it's calibrated for. My TA31F says "4X 223F"

It looks genuine, with the serial number removed or covered and then the whole thing spray painted.

Don't have it on hand. He said he's going to call NCIS tomorrow and get back to me. I'm losing hope. Either it doesn't have a serial number or it was removed and painted over. Either way, not legit and I'll pass. The price was 250, should have known

Yeah, that's a pretty big red flag. There's a chance it's real, but it's probably stolen if the s/n is gone.

That's a pretty good job if they covered the SN on a stolen unit. Ask him to take some acetone to that area and see if it rubs paint off and reveals whats underneath. Either way, fake or stolen, thats a good pass.

I have three ACOG's, two TA31RCO-M4's, and one TA01NSN. I bought the TA01NSN brand new in 2007 from a reputable dealer, and since I bought it, the tritium has always sucked and never shown bright, even in low light. I sent it back to Trijicon, and they said it was fine and sent back.

As for the serial number, on all of mine,  they are pretty visible and easy to find,, so as everyone has said, if you can't see the numbers, the sight either is fake or someone is purposely trying to hide something

The tritium isn't much visible for a reason - It's designed to be used in conjunction with night vision devices as well as the naked (night-adjusted) eye. First time I used an ACOG, I thought the same thing as you, in effect - tritium must be old.. so I complained to my armorer about it, and got a lecture instead. That night @ 0200 local, I took it out to look through it and sure enough - the chevron was quite visible. What amazed me most though, was the quality of light transmission through an ACOG at night. Having looked through a number of standard scopes at night over the previous years, I was shocked at how well the ACOG worked by comparison.

The ACOG is pretty amazing in its glass quality. I was shooting with a buddy of mine who does long range stuff and is a pretty big glass snob. After looking through Nightforces and Steiners all day I took out my Block II with a TA01NSN and we were both impressed with how good it looked after looking through optics almost twice as expensive.

I have seen many replica ACOGS over the years and none ever came close to the real deal.
The one above does look legit (I don't remember ever seeing the NSN in metal relief on the fakes) however it's been to say the least tampered with for whatever reason.

ETA: I stand corrected. Researched. Seems there was an older replica that had raised lettering just like that one.

However, like the one pictured above, no serial and NO forge marks towards the front.

It is old. But a replica.

Nice try, whomever tried.

Yeah I found that same information after a bit of Googling. Some very convincing fakes have been made.

Well I got that clone fever. Slowly and I mean a part a month putting together a mk12. Started looking at my carbine and thought to my self a few tweaks and I could have a m4 clone. Ordered a M&A car stock and put the stock grip and trigger guard back on.

Need a M4 RAS tho anyone got one?

I picked up a P&S RAS in good condition for $55 a couple months ago, even came with P&S rail covers.

Not sure if this is more appropriate here or in the M4 thread. But here's one of my student's rifle. FN M4A1 with an ACOG RCO, PEQ-16 and a KAC NT4 suppressor. Has the KAC ambi safety and PRI Gasbuster charging handle. It got gassy on auto!

Coolness.

Kind of re-did my tribute to 13 Hours (the movie) with more correct parts. Basically, it's entirely correct (to the movie M4s) now, having added a Eotech 512 (got here on the EE).

Should be GtG.

I had one in Afghanistan. Microphone blew out when I popped my cherry. Had a SAW 3 feet to my left and a 240b 3 feet to my right. Contour drop shipped me a new one to Afghan free of charge before I even was able to mail the bad one in. Great company. If I ever need a helmet cam again they will get my business.

How did you end up mounting it? Best way I came up with was 100mph tape and zip ties around the helmet band.

Man that is slick... I returned all but one of my eotechs (xps-2 for my mp5) to include my two 512s... Was tired of sending them back for reticle fading... That being said, damn it if a 512 doesn't look right at home on a 1.5 build...

Are any UID barcode stickers still available? I saw some posts from last year, but I wasn't sure who was making or selling them.
