What is the average price that these are going for? I see some for 1900, is that a good deal? I'm thinking about making the commitment after weeks of going back and forth with this or saving money by picking up the colt 6920.

Is there much difference between the sr15 iws and the sr15 mod1?

My Mod 1 is my absolute favorite rifle.

The SR15 IWS uses the Midlength URXII, which is a 10 3/4 quad rail with integrated front sight, and a pressed on gas block. The SR15 Mod 1 uses the URX 3.1, which is a 13.5" slick handguard with integral rail section at front and rear and without integrated sight. The Mod 1 also uses a pinned gas block.

The Mod 1 rail gets a lot hotter while shooting.
I now prefer the legacy but KAC is discontinuing them except in colors.
I would find a lightly used one and shoot the hell out of it.
The lack of full rails and the funny bolt on rail covers on the mod 1 also kinda sucks to Me.

No, they are just using the newer URX 3.1 rail vs the URX II. The integrated front sight of the URX II wasnt well received by many of the .gov agency's KAC targets their products at, the result seems to be spilling over to the civilian products.

I bought a taupe legacy model in May from grabagun for about $1800 to my door. I sold the SOPMOD, rail covers, and vert grip for $300 so it netted down to $1500 for me.

As far as it being worth the extra $ vs. a 6920; I bought the SR-15 to replace a Colt. It started out as a 6520 lower with a 14.5" M4 upper and later I sold the Colt lower for a KAC lower. I bought the SR-15 lower first after handling the 14.5" SR-15 at the SHOT show, I planed to buy the upper when it was available and pin a FH. Once the 14.5" was for sale I realized the price for the upper wasn't far off what I could get a whole taupe gun for. After buying the SR-15 I've never looked back, to me it's worth twice the price of a 6920, maybe more.

If you haven't had the chance to shoot a SR-15, do it. Even handling the rifle was enough to make up my mind. It seems like its a case of "more than the sum of its parts", you can look at the spec sheet for the SR-15 but it just doesn't convey how light, balanced, quick handling, and soft shooting it is.

Yeah, I've been stuck in limbo for the past few weeks because of the price tag. But i feel like i should just buy it and never look back because I'm looking for this to be my one and only AR and to be good out of the box. I'm sure the price will be justified once I bring it home...

It's a lot of money, no question about it. However, I feel like there is a good amount of value for the money spent. I can't say the same for something like a Noveske, the light recce lo-pro is about the closest product they have to a SR-15 and for $2280 you get a mil-spec trigger and no BUIS. Little things like that are easy to overlook with the SR-15, the trigger is great and it comes with one of the best and most popular BUIS on the market. Even the LaRue predatAR which I think is a good value doesn't come with BUIS.

For what I was looking for the SR-15 fits the bill better than anything on the market or, anything I could assemble myself. I couldn't be happier with the $1500 it cost me.

I see the standard SR-15 going for $1800 or $1900-$2100 in FDE on gunbroker and others.

I love the SR15 so much, I bought three of them

...MBlades pretty much summed up my thoughts on the SR15 as a whole..It's what the entire system consists of that makes it a great value IMO..

My first one that I bought back in 2007 and currently has right under 11K rounds through it so far and I've had exactly ONE malfunction that was probably mag related (double feed). It happened during an EAG Cabine 2 class and a quick lock bolt to the rear, strip mag, rack rack rack, insert new mag, bang. I will add that this was 12-13 hour 3 day class and it happened on the third day towards the end and the rifle wasn't cleaned at all at that point..

I see you're in Florida and if you're anywhere near St. Aug/Jax, you're more than welcome to test ride my SR15 to help you make a decision..I'll warn you though, I have 5 friends that own SR15 just cause they shot mine..

Since I aquired my SR15 I havent shot any of my other ARs. This thing is the perfect fighting gun for me. It came ready to go right out off the box. All I had to do was mount my TA33 and sight in. I can never keep enough ammo around with this thing. It shoots so smooth that I cannot stop shooting it. Its worth the extra money, I have a few Colts but the added features and lightweight put the SR15 in class all it own.

I've owned the KAC/Magpul version and the legacy, they are the pinnacle of AR15's.....

The legacy having a quad rail is a non issue because it so lightweight......It's like aliens built the damn thing.

The legacy is really well balanced and extremely lightweight overall.

It doesn't look lightweight - quad rail and standard looking barrel - but you pick it up and it is THE ABSOLUTE handiest AR I've ever held, and that includes comparably equipped 6520's which are just 'light' but not 'handy'.

the balance is literally perfect.

I'm trying to figure out optics now, thinking 1-4 accupoint.

All I've ever run is the standard 55gr FMJ ammo..PMC, Federal XM193, 5.56, AE .223 cause i typically buy 1K cases when I can find them for $300.00 or less..I definitely wouldn't break her in using Tula though..

jBoy, did you have any issues with the URX 3 rail getting too hot this past weekend?....I was thinking about changing to that rail on my SR15.
