Absolutely. Field strip, inspect the bolt, the bolt carrier, the barrel, lube, reassemble, and function check.

Run a bore snake down it.
Coat everything in oil. Add a little grease to the hammer sear. If it's a new parked carrier, I'll put a little grease on the skids of the carrier. Shoot. |

Absolutely, surprises with firearms are generally not a good thing.
As stated, take it down to insure it's put together correctly, check the bore, add some lube. |

I'll inspect, run a bore snake, then lube. Then run the crap out of it to see if something breaks. Has worked for me for lot's of years/weapons. To each their own.

Every factory made rifle I've ever gotten (new) included instructions to do specific cleaning steps prior to firing. Most of the time, new parts aren't "lubricated," they have a protectant on them. Not an oil intended to keep parts moving smoothly, but rather one that is just there to keep things from rusting. Pay particular attention to the bore, but don't skimp on insptecting and lubricating the FCG, bolt and carrier.

All new guns are nastier that they will ever be from shooting. Full of chips and filings, grit, dirt, and dubious "oils" and stuff. Wash them out good and re-lube.
