THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
My brother and I started shooting skeet together about 25 years ago. 10 years ago pistols became our next way to compete. Well, he went out and bought an AK a couple of months ago and not to out done I have now joined the rifle addiction.

After lurking this forum for a few weeks I'm the proud owner of a DD V7. I seemed to be the best starting point for my intended use which is 50 to 200 yard range play. One trip to the range so far to zero in the iron sights. I ran 50 rounds of 5.57 and 100 rounds of Remington .223, the rifle never missed a beat. The first three mods are going to be A) some type of larger grip for my large hands B) a budget 1x4 optic the 48 year old eyes apparently are only so good out past 50 yards and C) some trigger work. That's my only beef with the rifle the trigger is gritty, creepy, heavy and does not have a defined break point for target shooting.

I have had a number of 1911's, other pistols and shotguns and I have to say the fit and finish on this DD is great.

Looking forward to the newest addiction.

I know, I know, without pics it didn't happen so here it is.

Great choice starting with a DD.

You certainly know how to start a hobby "with a bang." DD is a very, very nice first AR.

congrats and welcome aboard..For the trigger, since your used to 1911's, just go ahead and get a Geissele..Bout the closest you'll get to a 1911 style trigger for the AR..

Optic, with have a subforum for that and depending on your budget, there's something for you in the 1-4 power range for sure so I would reseacrh options there..

Grip is personal preference but the more popular ones are the Magpul, Tango Down, Ergo, and Bravo Company..

+1 on the Geissele SSA trigger; two stage, clean break, full power springs.
Yes the damn things are addictive; enjoy your new piece.
And by all means, get more mags.

Thanks.

I know my 1911's triggers get better after a few hunderd rounds but this thing is way rougher than I'm used to. I love tinkering with these things and w thinking about putting a little lapping compound on the sear surfaces while I sat in front of the tv. Then shot it some more. But for target shooting I think the Geissele will be in my future after optics and a grip.

I have already bought two addition Pmags.

Which grips might be better for a larger hand? I would like more distance to the trigger and something beefer to hold on to. (no jokes please be nice to the new guy)

You are so screwed This addiction is expensive, at least you started off with a fine stick.
I can think of worse ways to spend money, (like boats)... or Vegas, or travel , or golf , or ...
At the end of the day, you have something to show for it (and a grin), you'll be fine.
You can't take it with you, right.

Try a Ergo grip for starters ($20), the trigger should get better with use, but you have options. Many 1x4 scopes to choose (make sure to get a good mount)...

Since you are a 1911 guy like myself I find the SD line of Geissele much better for me... It is a flat face trigger design something like the 1911... I have the SD-C and the SD3G and love em both

I am SO sorry to hear about your affliction. You do realize it's terminal, don't you? The only way to keep BRD (Black Rifle Disease) in check is by feeding it a continuous stream of virgin rifles.

It looks like you are off to a good start. That one should keep you healthy for a month or so.
