THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
My brother and I started shooting skeet together about 25 years ago. 10 years ago pistols became our next way to compete. Well, he went out and bought an AK a couple of months ago and not to out done I have now joined the rifle addiction.

After lurking this forum for a few weeks I'm the proud owner of a DD V7. I seemed to be the best starting point for my intended use which is 50 to 200 yard range play. One trip to the range so far to zero in the iron sights. I ran 50 rounds of 5.57 and 100 rounds of Remington .223, the rifle never missed a beat. The first three mods are going to be A) some type of larger grip for my large hands B) a budget 1x4 optic the 48 year old eyes apparently are so good out past 50 yards and C) some trigger work. That's my only beef with the rifle the trigger is gritty, creepy, heavy and does not have a defined break point for target shooting.

I have had a number of 1911's, other pistols and shotguns and I have to say the fit and finish on this DD is great.

Looking forward to the newest addiction.

I know, I know, without pics it didn't happen so here it is.

Nice first AR !! Im guessing your trigger will feel better after a couple hundred rounds or so. A good and fairly inexpensive fixed 3x scope is burris ar-332, ive got one and its been flawless stil on same battery after 2+ years. In fact I think they have a new one that is fixed 4x thats even better.

Oh and your friend with the AK, hes gonna be insanely jealous when your hitting bullseye at 200 yds and hes barely hitting paper at 100 !!!

Welcome and nice rifle! I also have a DD (v5) and its awesome. DD makes incredible products and you made a great choice.

For a grip, check out the MIAD by Magpul. It can be changed to S-M-L and is very affordable around $25.

For an optic, I had a Leatherwood CMR earlier this year and for a $300 scope I was very pleased. Ended up going to an Aimpoint as the 1-4 wasn't my cup of tea, but the optic is quite nice for the money. SWFA had a deal on it at one point, scope plus mount for $330. The reticle is very nice but the illumination during the day is a little lacking. Also check out the Burris Tac-30, a much larger and brighter reticle but a very nice budget scope.

Enjoy your new toy!

1st welcome to the forum
2nd nice rifle
3rd reread your post before you post proof read for grammar

Trigger to try you can get a JP trigger spring to see if that helps your issue if not an aftermarket trigger looks like it is on your horizon!
I was born an AR in my hands. Behind the gun I will make my final stand, and that is why they call me .... bad company I cannot deny.... Bad company till the day I die.

Nice rifle! Don't see you picking up the AK any more lol.. You mentioned a budget optic.. Check out primaryarms.com they have a 1-4 that's a fair price. I have a couple optics from them, a red dot and a 4-16x44... Couldn't be happier with their products/ customer support
