Not decent ones.
Maybe in the $600-$700 dollar range with PSA, about as cheap as I'd go if you are going to ever rely on the rifles for hard use. Lower build kit w/o lower: $105 M4 Upper Sale: $300 PSA BCG : $140 =$540 before the lower |

Surplus Ammo and Arms has some uppers for $299 too.
You "might" be able to get the costs down a little bit if you want to assemble the uppers yourself, SA&A also has some barrels for $99 and stripped uppers for $55. SA&A also offers slight discounts on uppers and lowers when you buy a 5 pack. I haven't done a cost analysis after adding all the fiddly bits to those DIY uppers though. |

If you can find a Cav Arms lower you can often save money on the lower as a whole... but even then I'd be hard pressed to be sub $600. And that is without optics, rear sights, or magazines.
Delton has complete kits for $470 + lower + mags + sights... and in my experience they have solid stuff. Your best bet is to find some blemished/ cheap lowers and buy six... then get quality BCGs and decent LPKs (PSA come to mind). You'll probably have +/- $250 per rifle in it at this point. Then attempt to find (probably a hodge podge) of used barrels, uppers, and stocks off of the EE. You may be able to get it done. - AG |

DSA ZM4 A3 uppers - $240
DSA charging handles - $14
Joeboboutfitters NFA complete lowers - $104.95 - free shipping
rguns BCG - $107.50 after shipping
That puts you at $466.45 each. This doesn't include the cost of transferring the lowers at your ffl, or cost of shipping from DSA(I'd imagine that split between everything, may add $6 or $7 per rifle) That is the absolute cheapest you can get right now, and keeps you at under $475 per gun.

It can be done....... They wont be decent though. Need to either give yourself a little more budget room or cut down a rifle or two or three to make sure you get a quailty built one.

You could do a New Frontier polymer lower and piece the upper together with DSA parts. That would probably get you close

You might want to consider the PSA complete lower for $239 and free shipping. I bought one last month, very nice looking.

how do we define "decent"= accuracy?looks?reliability?durability?
iron sights only? carry handle? I think for my definition of "decent" I would have to think in more the $600 range IMHO Every way I come up with the figures is in the $580-650 range, and that doesn' take into account availablity of parts as one poster stated |

if your looking to piece them together....including the barrels....
SOTA Arms has a 3-pack of 16" 1x9 M4 style barrels for $250 You could probably get some RGuns lowers or Aero Precision for around $70-80 each (maybe others) add LPK's, BCG's, buffer tubes, stocks, etc. FWIW- $500 won't build a "bad gun" per say, but it probably will leave some to be desired when you compare it to what $100 (even $200) more could do for you. i.e. there's a lot of good options out there in the $600-$700 range, and if you decide to assemble it yourself (rather than buy a factory gun), you could probably come out with a few upgrades such as MOE stock, grip, etc. vs standard A2 grip, M4 stock... Best of Luck |

I would call someone like PSA and tell them what you need and seeing that you need 6 guns maybe they can work with you if buy all at once.

I helped a church group build some rifles one time. they bought their own lowers and kits and I helped them with assembly. They bought Essential Arms lowers for $59 at a local Atlanta gun show and I had them buy 16in chrome lined lightweight kits with A2 uppers from JT. I believe each kit was $525 so they were under $600 and I believe at the time (2005 ish) that was the best you could do and still have a dependable carbine.
Now I would probably go with DSA uppers and PSA lowers and you can probably get it done for about $550 each. |
