Welcome to ARFCOM. I have a 16" PSA rifle pretty much the same as you posted the description for. It was my first black rifle and I have no complaints. It's fun to shoot, easy to clean, and has given me no issues. I've replaced the handguards and will probably get a sling. I, too will probably upgrade to a midlength something I build myself later on, but for a first rifle I'm quite satisfied with my PSA piece. I can't comment on the other options, but that's my 0.02.

I also bought a 100% PSA 14.7" CHF middy for my first and it has been flawless. PSA is SO damn affordable you just can't go wrong. I don't own any other AR's bedsides the PSA so I can't comment on those. Good luck with your decision.

For the money you are hard pressed to find a better value than the PSA. I just picked one up and got it cleaned of factory packing and it is all lubed up. Waiting on a carry handle (I did not want flip up BUIS on this one, so I swapped in the EE) The only thing I noticed that I would like to see changed from the factory is the lack of double heatshields and a sling thing for the FSB. Both were an easy fix, I just opened up the parts bin.
I have Colt's, and Sabre Defence as well as one CMMG, and the PSA out compares the Sabre's (at least on paper) and are equal to the 6920 minus the 2 things I previously mentioned. |

Either go inexpensive with the PSA or get the Colt. The only thing going for the Sig is the ambi mag release, but the PSA is probably as good as or a better rifle.
Some say always get the Colt. I think you can find the Colt cheaper than $1120 but like you said finding it in stock might be an issue. I saw Magpul Colts for around $1100 somewhere online but cannot remember where. Some Walmarts have the standard Colts too for under $1100. |

I would go with the Colt you cant go wrong. a 6920 is $1K
If you really want a 6.8 I've seen standard Bushmaster 6.8 carbines for like $850 |

Another (forum) Noob here... Just a thought on where you can find deals, I just picked up my LE6920MP-R from a local pawn shop that were stocking them new for $1300 but I had a bunch of stuff in my garage I was trying to get rid of anyway and got them to give me store credit (way more than they would have for cash) so I only shelled out a few hundred.

Get the PSA so you can put some acc. on it and buy some ammo.

DSG Arms(site sponsor) has the Colt 6920 Magpul in stock for $1,055 and regular 6920 out of stock for $995.00. GTDist has similar pricing. Can't go wrong with a Colt, especially for those prices.

Do yourself a favor and remove anything from Sig in your decision.

I have never owned a Colt but I have owned allot of other ARs and I have built several PSA and Spikes Tactical rifles. I would choose one of the PSAs with a mid-length gas system and a hammer forged barrel.
I really like the quality of the PSA rifles and the price is hard to beat. You may be able to save some money by buying the upper and lower separate or buy one of the rifle kits and a stripped lower (you would have to assemble the lower). Good luck with your new rifle! |

Daniel Defense 100%... i personally don't own one but my roommate does and it runs ridiculously well. I have run a lot of different AR brands and the DD is definitely a solid weapon.

It's not that others may not be good enough, but just that I like the look of the Sig, along with the pricing, over the rest of them. Why so negative on the Sig AR? |

DTI or PSA are both good choices and will leave you with left over cash for sights and ammo

The amount of negative comments from people I see who have never used or even seen one up close is phenominal. I have both a Colt LE6920 and a Sig M400. The Colt has an MP marked bolt and barrel. The Sig does not. The Colt has an M16 bolt carrier, and the Sig an enhanced AR15 bolt carrier. If these are important to you, go with the Colt. But my Sig has been every bit as reliable as the Colt (actually more since I've had two short strokes in the Colt). The Sig is a 1.5-2 MOA rifle with a 3x scope with a 2 MOA dot. The Sig's finish and upper/lower fit are way better than the Colt's. The gas key and castle nut staking is as good or better on the Sig than on the Colt. The Sig has an extractor support in the barrel extension, the Colt does not. The Sig has a lifetime warranty, and the Colt a one year warranty. Colt is one manufacturer that I have to lay my hands on before buying so I can do an inspection. Colt isn't what they used to be. The Sig, I'd buy that sight unseen. Every example I've seen has been flawless. PSA, on the other hand, is one rifle I would never consider buying sight unseen. So far, I've inspected three PSAs. One had a horrendous amount of play between the upper and the lower. The other two had finishes on the upper receiver that was so thin it looked medium-blue and there was a metallic sheen showing through. Also, there are a lot of reports of mis-machined uppers and reliability issues. I'm not sure why PSAs are so cheap. But with the three I've seen, the asking price of $795 was too much.

BTW, some one mentioned DTI. I looked at one of their Mil-Spec rifles recently and it was very, very nice and the asking price was about $900.

take a look at smith ans wesson ar's, they are great, i love mine and you can get the "tactical"model for about 900-100 or the sporter for about 650-750. i have heard zero complaints about smiths here or anywhere else. and if you ever have an issue smiths costumer service is top notch,

I have owned Colts, Bushmasters, Olympic, and Eagle rifles and now own a SIG M-400 and I love it. It is just as good as the Colt and it didn't rattle as much as the Colts. I am not saying Colt are bad rifles but for the money the SIG is just as good. I am now looking to buy the 716 to go with my M-400.

i have a psa and it is a great rifle, red x arms is another company that i think puts out a good rifle for a great price. So far i only have 1k rounds in each, and no hiccups as of yet...ran all rounds over a two day period! I have heard you can't run them like a, dd or bcm rifle.. but it is going to be fun proving people wrong and trying it out! thinking bout giving on to me kid, as a grad present and buying myself a 14.5 bcm, or a dd.. haven't made up my mind though...
my first black gun i went the cheap route built a budget rifle and but a t1 on it... now when i do upgrade to another rifle and trigger system, i already have the optics and enough ammo to play with and everyone in the family can go have fun on our range days!! Just my humble opinion.. |

If I could go back 5 AR's ago and do it all over again I would have bought either a Colt 6920 or a BCM Mid.
Both reliable, both have about the same price tag if you shop around and both will give you the best bang for your buck in terms of a reliable weapon you shouldnt have to worry about. I still dont own a Colt or a Whole BCM but I have converted to the you get what you pay for and pay once cry once crowd. Buy a quality and proven weapons system your life may depend on it one day. |

If I was going to buy my first AR15 right now and they were legal in my stupid state I'd buy a Colt
Man what is it with new guys getting sucked into these stupid 'optics read" rifles with no sights
why buy a 16" ar15 carbine without irons? |
