Never, ever tally up the total cost of your rifle in its "working" configuration.
It will just depress you. I think the last time I tallied up just the items I added to my issued rifle it came out to over $2K (though this of course included an ELCAN SpecterDR and DocOptic combo). ~Augee |
|
I was looking at this last week and realized that I have $1900 into one, $1500 into another. My "cheap" dedicated .22 has $850 into it.
Realizing that I had a rediculous amount into those three I set out to build a more cost effective rifle: PSA chrome lined M4 with Magpul MOE furniture and removable carry handle =$700 .... Now we're talking. Should be here in the next week or so. |

Too much. OPSEC I don't think this violates any OPSEC, if you post a single pic of your rifle I could probably put together list of parts that comes within 10% of what you paid, assuming you bought new |

This thread is about facing the facts and disgusting you in how much you spent |

I thought you were a "poor college student" OP? or is that only to get freebies?
my two 14.5" middies are probably up around $2000 a piece this is not taking into consideration that one started its life as a Colt MT6400C and has gone through about a dozen revisions, 3 barrels, 3 stocks, 4 slings, 3 lights, 4 light mounts, 4 BUIS, 3 rails, 4 VFG setups, 4 rail covers, 3 optics, 4 mounts, etc... |

It took me 3 years to buy all of that. And I bought most of it used and everything else on sale. Stop acting like a politician and taking a quote out of context. You dont even know the sentence that that quote came from. Go troll someone else. |

Well, I'm not yet finished getting my recently purchased first AR to where I want it, but it's currently looking like:
Daniel Defense M4V4 Aimpoint M4S Optic AAC M4-2000 Suppressor AAC Blackout 51T Muzzle Brake Magpul MBUS Front and Rear Back-Up Sights Magpul MIAD Grip Currently somewhere between $3,200-$3,400...and $200 on top of that if you include the pending tax stamp for the suppressor. Though things are about to get quite a bit pricier as I'm already going to be selling my not even used Aimpoint M4S (wish I could return it ) to replace it with a Trijicon ACOG TA11-RMR or TA33-RMR. That will add about another $1,100 or so to the total. It's been a pricey month, but I wanted to do my first AR right, and how I wanted it. Let's just say it will take quite some time to talk the wife into letting me pick up the 10.5" Noveske 300 Blackout rifile that I am currently eyeing as my next purchase though. |

why do so many people buy triggers rather than working on their trigger control?
|
|
Because no matter how good you are a stock trigger sucks for precision work (especially MK12 clones and other SPR/RECCE type rifles). You have to try twice as hard to shoot the same groups versus just buying a better trigger and focusing on your shooting as a whole...not just your trigger control.

I also found when shooting extremely quick while transitioning targets, I have to slow down or I shoot left due to the trigger. With my SSA and SD3G, this isn't an issue. |

Long range shooting. If you ever have the opportunity head to a range with steel silhouettes out to 500 or 600 yds. You'll have a great time and walk away with a better understanding of why people go with certain accessories/optics/triggers. Check you states hometown forum and see if anyone can recommend a range!

If you're just going to be doing casual plinking at 50-100yds...and not competing in any type of shooting such as 3-Gun where speed and time counts, then the stock trigger will serve you just fine!

Are we counting the associated cans and tax stamps as well? I have ~$2k in my 9mm SBR... Not counting the can and 2 stamps (one for SBR, one for the can).

Just counting the stuff that is specific for that rifle. So if your can is only for a certain AR then yes, but if you share it among several than no. |
