This is the thread where you realize you spend too much on your AR....

-Armalite M15A4 $850 (from local gunstore during Obama panic)
-Aimpoint PRO $380 -$70 for selling included mount $310
-Aimpoint Cover $25
-LaRue LT-129 used ebay $120
-MI Rail $120 used
-Blem PWS FSC556 $80
-LaRue Fug $99
-Troy Rear site $80 (SKD 30% bin laden sale)
-Magpul MIAD $35
-LaRue Index Clips $30
-Elzetta M60 $125 ( 30% black friday sale)
-Vikings Tactics light mount $20
-Magpul ASAP $18 (SKD 30% bin laden sale)

Total: $1912

I got most of that on sale, probably would have been $300+ more if I had bought it full price!

Items with sales tax:
LE6920: $1150
Daniel Defense M4A1RIS II: $370
Surefire M300: $279
VLTOR stock: $95
Magpul VFG: $20
Magpul BAD lever: $25
Battlecomp 2.0: $165
Rainier Arms lo-pro gas block: $45
$2149 with 9.5% sales tax = $2353.16

Items bought online:
EOTech 553: $630
Troy Battle Sights: $220
$850

Grand total: $3203.16 +/- a few bucks for shipping and whatevs.

Not included in this total are things that I use on more than this gun, for example I bought about 40 new mags and a few thousand rounds while I was building this last year, but those were specifically for me, other rifles, and the future, and not just this rifle

Never, ever tally up the total cost of your rifle in its "working" configuration.

It will just depress you.

I think the last time I tallied up just the items I added to my issued rifle it came out to over $2K (though this of course included an ELCAN SpecterDR and DocOptic combo).

I was looking at this last week and realized that I have $1900 into one, $1500 into another. My "cheap" dedicated .22 has $850 into it.

Realizing that I had a rediculous amount into those three I set out to build a more cost effective rifle: PSA chrome lined M4 with Magpul MOE furniture and removable carry handle =$700 .... Now we're talking. Should be here in the next week or so.

I thought you were a "poor college student" OP? or is that only to get freebies?

my two 14.5" middies are probably up around $2000 a piece

this is not taking into consideration that one started its life as a Colt MT6400C and has gone through about a dozen revisions, 3 barrels, 3 stocks, 4 slings, 3 lights, 4 light mounts, 4 BUIS, 3 rails, 4 VFG setups, 4 rail covers, 3 optics, 4 mounts, etc...
And I looked, and behold a pale horse and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell[bound] followed with him.

I actually made a spreadsheet when I was putting together my gun...it's so much I'm almost afraid to admit it:

All prices are with tax/shipping/everything:

Lower:
AGP Arms Lower - $113.43
Daniel Defense LPK - $82.04
Magpul Aluminum trigger guard - $26.30
BAD-ASS Ambi Safety - $47.84
Magpul MIAD Basic grip, CTR, Stock mounting kit, ASAP - $225
AR15 Buttstock wrench - $6.99
5x Maglevl PMAGs - $75

Lower Total: $576.60

Upper:
MSTN custom LMT upper with LaRue 12.0 rails and gasblock - $635 (bought from a member)
LMT BCG - $126
BCM Gunfighter - $46.74
KAC Micro Front BUIS - $153.15
KAC Micro Rear BUIS - $155
AFG2 - $33.90
3x XTM panels - $21.15
3x ladder rail covers - $34.35
Primary Arms micro red dot w/ riser - $132.99

Upper Total: $1,339.28

GRAND TOTAL: $1,914.88

I've been waiting for the 2MOA Aimpoint to come out...once that's on there with probably a LaRue mount and I swap out the rail covers and AFG2 for LaRue clips and handstops it'll be a $2,500 gun easily. Still want a BattleComp, need a sling, and some sort of light and mount for it too. Lot of other things I could have bought for that kind of cash...PredatAR, OBR, Noveske, etc. but I love it still and I'll keep it forever.

It took me 3 years to buy all of that. And I bought most of it used and everything else on sale.

Well, I'm not yet finished getting my recently purchased first AR to where I want it, but it's currently looking like:

Daniel Defense M4V4
Aimpoint M4S Optic
AAC M4-2000 Suppressor
AAC Blackout 51T Muzzle Brake
Magpul MBUS Front and Rear Back-Up Sights
Magpul MIAD Grip

Currently somewhere between $3,200-$3,400...and $200 on top of that if you include the pending tax stamp for the suppressor.

Though things are about to get quite a bit pricier as I'm already going to be selling my not even used Aimpoint M4S (wish I could return it ) to replace it with a Trijicon ACOG TA11-RMR or TA33-RMR. That will add about another $1,100 or so to the total. It's been a pricey month, but I wanted to do my first AR right, and how I wanted it.

Let's just say it will take quite some time to talk the wife into letting me pick up the 10.5" Noveske 300 Blackout rifile that I am currently eyeing as my next purchase though.

RRA middy $847
Single point sling $35
Sling mount $15

Aimpoint $315
Pic mounts $25
TLR1 light $75

Total $1367

Upgrades

PSA middy upper SS Wilson barrel and Midwest free float $599

So figuring that I recycled the RRA upper onto a rifle for my son that saved me $350...

So I figure somewhere around $1615 total.

My son's

Progmag BUIS $55
PSA LPK $65

$555 TOTAL

why do so many people buy triggers rather than working on their trigger control?

Because no matter how good you are a stock trigger sucks for precision work (especially MK12 clones and other SPR/RECCE type rifles). You have to try twice as hard to shoot the same groups versus just buying a better trigger and focusing on your shooting as a whole...not just your trigger control.

Agreed. I also found when shooting extremely quick while transitioning targets, I have to slow down or I shoot left due to the trigger. With my SSA and SD3G, this isn't an issue.

Long range shooting. If you ever have the opportunity head to a range with steel silhouettes out to 500 or 600 yds. You'll have a great time and walk away with a better understanding of why people go with certain accessories/optics/triggers. Check you states hometown forum and see if anyone can recommend a range!

If you're just going to be doing casual plinking at 50-100yds...and not competing in any type of shooting such as 3-Gun where speed and time counts, then the stock trigger will serve you just fine!

I have roughly a little less than $800 in this complete build
PSA upper and lower w/ MOE gear , Primary Arms red dot w/ QR mount , I built this one off of the $49 stripped lowers they had on sale at Christmas

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v513/standardracer/IMAG0203-1-1.jpg

and about $710 in this build not counting the scope which I got for free 6 yrs ago in a previous purchase which I sold for more than I paid and kept the scope :D
Picked this one up complete for $599 on PSA's Christmas sale
QR scope rings for $20 used
Troy rear used $70
MOE handguard used $20
Forgot the $13 mag pictured :(

Are we counting the associated cans and tax stamps as well? I have ~$2k in my 9mm SBR... Not counting the can and 2 stamps (one for SBR, one for the can).

There are over 550 million firearms in worldwide circulation. That's one firearm for every twelve people on the planet. The only question is: How do we arm the other 11?

Just counting the stuff that is specific for that rifle. So if your can is only for a certain AR then yes, but if you share it among several than no.
