THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
Went to the local wally world to get some milk and a few other things; made my usual pass by sporting goods to see if there was anything new. Low and behold there was another "M4gery" in the gun case besides the Bushmaster. Figuring it was a Winham rifle or maybe a Sig I moved to check it out.... it was not what I thought it was going to be. I see the Colt rollmark with "M4 carbine" and "5.56 MM", it also had a LE serial number instead of SP. Its also stamped "Colt Defense". I'd been debating getting a 6920, so it followed me home; $1078 OTD. I guess Walmart is drinking the cool-aid.

Holy smokes. My local WalMart doesn't even sell ammo. Pretty cool
Handy little carbine. The M44 is a combination flash bang grenade, flame thrower, rifle and spear all in one.

Because anti-gunner trolls, feds, and thief's stalk the internet, screen capping pictures of everything for nefarious uses.

The only place where there's a link to you, and that serial number, is in the "bound book" in your FFL. There's no "public tracing" going on, with weapon serial numbers. Unpossible.

This.

IIRC, there was a member here that had a photo "stolen" from the net and used in an ad on a gun auction.

OP should take it off safe, and see if the trigger guard can be swung out with that lock on!

I'd argue that posting with serial number exposed would create place #2 "where there's a link to you, and that serial number".
obscuring the serial number keeps the number places that link him to that serial number down to 1... the FFL book entry

And the license plate or VIN that are publicly viewable on your vehicle aren't just as bad? In reality, the only time it'll cause you any trouble is if it's an illegal firearm. If somebody tries to report your gun stolen, and it comes back registered to you & in your possesion; guess who's going to jail. Not you. People over react a bit when it comes to serial numbers, they forget about every other way that a criminal can use other numbers against them.

Nice gun, good decision. Good for Wal Mart, too. I would not be surprised if they can't keep them on the shelf.

Nice! Ours had the Sigs in stock but no Colts.

Looks like wall mart is finally coming to their senses. They stopped selling everything except muzzle loaders here in Idaho after the Columbine Mass. and Michael Moore's documentary blaming guns as the bad guy. Walmart and Kmart both rushed to get all their firearms off the shelves.

I work for wal-mart so I get 10% off; was $1097 + tax, OTD for actually $1072 and change tax included. Truthfully I could have gotten one cheaper by ordering online, probably would have saved $100, BUT I would be buying sight unseen (this rollmark is the one I wanted for collection purposes), wal-mart wouldn't have gotten the sale encouraging them to continue to carry these types of rifles (good for everyone), and I chaulk the $100 to the buy it and bring it home now tax (impatient tax).

Yeah, the guy behind the counter was a complete newbie. He was nice, showed interest in learning as the assistant manager helped him through the process. He forgot to take the store's lock off which is no big deal. I unscrewed it but I could have also dropped the trigger guard.
