Anyone have some non-military clone A1 pics?

Like this? Just got done with it today actually. I wanted a budget gun, and either an A1 or A2 upper which ever I found first for cheap. Ended up with the A1. All in all about $500. Quality barrel and internals too.

Does a A1 with Lone Stars count?

And my HD Frankencarbine. Slickside Colt upper, BM LW barrel assy, CavAid lower,+ accessories.

This thread is full of win.

Call me nuts, but I've seen a good bit of fellow shooters move from red dots and 1-4x scopes back to good ole irons.

Not necessarily on their primary gun, but their others.

I used to have 2 red dots. But don't have any now. So, I don't think your nuts. What good it a red dot, if you don't know how to use the irons.

I really want a pencil barreled carbine with A1 stock, but with a flat top instead of carry handle.  I still want a fixed rear sight, but I like the option of running an optic because they work better for me in low light.  I'm more accurate with irons but faster with a dot.

I've recently been considering a modernized A1 build for my next AR.  Mostly because I need a 2nd AR to keep in the safe that I can finish with a reasonable budget and will help keep me from investing too much in it by having an A1 upper.  Here is what I was thinking:

Nodak Spud slickside A1 upper and non fenced lower
16" LW or 14.5 LW 1:7 midlength barrel from a reputable maker, ideally BCM
MOE Midlength Handguards
Old School CAR stock and A1 grip
Magpul Bad Lever, ASAP Plate, MS2 Sling, RSA or the new MOE mount
IWC SWC mount for a Surefire 6P I have laying around.

After seeing this thread I'm really liking this build for a fun and unique backup carbine.

Few and far between. You can run a non fr upper with a barrel that has them.

Can you be more specific?

I've never had any problems with them, I have two and my friends have 5 or 6 between them.

You do have to be careful with the stripped ones produced right as the company was closing it's doors. Some need to be filed a bit to get fire control parts and PMAG's to fit.

That would make sense why I can't find them.

I'll just get a stripped lower and build it with an A1 stock

A regular receiver with an A1 stock is always a good choice however, if you are looking for Cav Lowers some places still have them. I know Aimless posted in a thread a few days ago that the AR15 store still has them.

only thing for sure, its not a A2

its also not like that anymore, the barrels off being replated.

If you find you need them, you can Dremel them in yourself or get someone like ADCO to do it.

How modern is a DIY suppressor charging handle RTV and vent hole mod on an A1? This kind of madness is usually reserved for a 12lb M4gery.
